Millionaire VP pick: Paul Ryan rich from investments, inheritance
The Los Angeles Times ^ | August 12, 2012 | By Michael Finnegan

With business investments and a family inheritance, Rep. Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin and his wife have accumulated millions of dollars in assets and generated income last year well above his congressional salary, according to his most recent financial disclosure statement.

Mitt Romney’s newly announced running mate reported assets in the range of $2 million to $7.7 million. The largest was the interest that his wife, Janna, holds in a trust resulting from the 2010 death of her mother, Prudence Little. Her interest in the trust falls in the range of $1 million to $5 million, Ryan reported.

Ryan also reported investment income that, along with a distribution from the inheritance, supplemented his $174,000 congressional salary – somewhere between $168,000 and $1.2 million.

Members of Congress disclose their income and assets in ranges rather than precise amounts.

because they don't like Romney...

at least his wife received her mother's inheritance and not the government..

just wait another four years of obama and all we worked and invested and saved for our kids and their kids will go to the government, then all these Romney haters can be happy broke and lower income...because under Hussein we will either be RICH or POOR...

I hate how people piss and moan and bitch and groan when some one WORKS, HAS A GOOD FAMILY, AND BECOME FINANCIALLY SECURE THEY HAVE TO SAY NASTY THINGS... but only if they are REPUBLICAN...

Does anyone remember the Slimes running an article detailing Biden’s monetary worth when Zero selected him back in ‘08?
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Didn’t the term ‘Lunch Bucket Joe’ sort of come out of his (so called) humble beginnings?
Remember that Howdy Doody looking clown (Gephardt?) who would come out and claim his father told them at 6 or so that ‘Collective bargaining’ was the cure to all that ailed you.
But if I remember correctly every time Geppy boy made some outlandish claim of his upbringing, his brother would say “his memory must be much better than mine cause I grew up in the same house, at the same time and remember NONE of this foolishness”.

The Clintoons rolled into DC looking like the Clampetts, all their belongings in a small Uhaul and pickemup truck (with astroturf in the bed) and when they left to their FIRST ever house, it took All the trucks United Van Lines, Victory Van Lines and Interstate Van Lines could muster up to move the absconded loot - Is it still ‘true’ that ALL gifts to the Pres are actually the property of US and are not to be removed by the outgoing occupant?

I don't see how this pick helps this clown win any additional electoral votes.

Probably cost him Florida to boot.

The Republicans can always fire back that Senator Harry Reid massively benefited from his long tenure in the Senate and we all know that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is married to a husband that owns a lot of very prime real estate, including very prime vineyards in California's Wine Country. So there.

Paul Ryan does not have an apartment in DC, he sleeps on a roll out cot in his office when Congress is in session.

The story that I read about the SS payments was that he saved the money to help pay for his college. Everyone knows that the SS would not have been enough to cover his expenses. My mother received SS for us when my dad died, but she needed the money to help pay the bills. It was not a lot of money. She also got money from the Veterans Administration for us.

Hi,

I'm Senator John Kerry, and I became a millionaire the old fashioned way...I married into money. Now isn't America a "grond" country?

Any body remember this kind of attention being given to Al Gore’s finances, or Hillary’s cattle future “investments”?

I must have missed the anal exam of Nancy Pelosi’s and Barbara Boxer’s family finances by the LAT. What a biased rag. Any conservative who pays to read it should be horsewhipped for supporting the enemy.

If you gave me a salary of $172,000 a year, along with a virtually unlimited budget for housing and expenses, I’d easily save a million dollars in 10 years.

And with his wife being a tax attorney, she probably made more than he did. I doubt he made much money off of being a representative. The article sure is worded to suggest he profited from his position though.

If the Ryans earned $1.2 million of income on no more than $7 million of assets (the upper ends of the ranges cited), there’s a job waiting for them at Bain if we lose the election.
