Mitt Romney’s selection of Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) as his running mate has energized donors, with the campaign raising $3.5 million in the 24 hours since the announcement.

Campaign spokesperson Andrea Saul tweeted the fundraising haul on Sunday.

Yesterday, Saul provided updates at the Romney campaign saw a spike in donations after Ryan was named to the GOP ticket. A tweet Saturday afternoon said that $1.2 million had been raised within four hours, with $2 million total by the end of the day.

The campaign was quick to fundraise off the seven-term Wisconsin lawmaker, who is a popular figure with the conservative base.

An email sent shortly after Romney welcomed Ryan at a campaign event in Norfolk, Va., asked supporters to “Donate $15 today to help restore America's greatness and build a stronger middle class.”

On Sunday, the campaign sent a fundraising pitch from Ryan telling supporters he was “thrilled” and “deeply honored” to be Romney’s running mate.

The email told backers they could win a chance to meet him and Romney and encouraged them to donate before Wednesday to enter a raffle.

Democrats as well are using the Republican VP pick to fill their campaign coffers. An email from Obama’s campaign yesterday said that with Ryan’s selection, Romney had “doubled down on his commitment to take our country back to the failed policies of the past,” and urged supporters to donate.

“Election Day is closer than you think — make a donation to fund this campaign in the time we have left,” the email said.

Ryan’s boost to Romney’s war chest comes after the GOP candidate and RNC out-raised Obama and Democrats for three straight months.

In July, the Romney campaign and RNC’s joint efforts netted a a $101.2 million haul, over $27 million more than Obama campaign and Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) $74 million.

It was the second straight month that Romney had passed the $100 million mark, intensifying concerns on the Obama campaign that they may be outspent in the run up to election day.

No mention, of course, of how much money and manpower the unions, NGOs, ACORNs and others are pouring into the Obama campaign.

It’s a shame they are letting that idiot continue to be a spokesperson.

Isn’t that special. Another turd in the punchbowl. Are you making phonecalls for the Obama campaign?

Oh, never mind. I’ve already read the rationale: you’ve got principles and you won’t comprimise them even if it means the house burns down around you. By golly, you’re a real man. Yada, yada, etc.

Intelligent. When Obama uses executive orders to seize your private property, bank account and guns; to set your pay scale; to appoint the most radical judges you’ve ever seen; to set your dinner menu; and then determine what you’re going to drive and when you’re going to drive-just remember you voted for that clown Virgil Goode.

If Romney wins, the money wasted on Obama’s side by the unions could be the straw that breaks the liberal unions’ backs.

I guess that means he can send me three dozen more letters and three more photos of himself in an effort to gain my support.

with the campaign raising $3.5 million in the 24 hours since the announcement.

Sounds like people are pretty happy with the choice.
So much for the dems being "thrilled" about it. In Washington, money talks.

Ahh. Isn’t this sweet? Another member of the willard rah-rah brigade shilling for his favorite progressive. Won any converts lately with your approach?

Don’t bother to explain. I’ve seen your type before. Discussing principles would indeed be a waste of time as you wouldn’t know one if it bit you on the posterior.

Caveat: Romney was about last on my list and I oppose most of his social issues. If he is elected, I will fight him on those.

In California, I have the luxury of not voting for him because it will not matter. In Virginia or other close states that would not be the case. If it comes down to end of the campaign and I believe the popular vote is important, I will very reluctantly cast my vote for Romney.

Standing up for your principles is noble. But be prepared to accept the consequences. Like a man who does not believe in guns and watches his family murdered in a home invasion robbery. He stood by his principles but had to accept the consequences of a dead family.

I am not prepared to accept the consequences of four more years of Obama. This republic is in grave jeopardy, and unfortunately some are not able to recognize it.

I must be 'special people' (snix).

Unfortunately I have to 'donate' to my County Treasurer for our Real Estate Taxes.
If I don't 'donate', I get to; "Have Lunch With Bubba & Tyrone." /s

Well, you and I are in a relatively select group of conservatives (even at FR) who don’t see willard as The Answer to all of the evils that our Republic faces.
