Paul Ryan welcomed home with massive rally in Wisconsin

WAUKESHA, Wis.-- The largest crowd of the campaign so far for a Mitt Romney event welcomed home favorite son Rep. Paul Ryan at a massive rally here in the congressman's district Sunday night, pushing the GOP's vice presidential nominee to tears as he took the stage, setting off cheers with two simple words:

"Hi mom."

With that, voice cracking, Ryan showed his Wisconsin credentials to a crowd the Romney campaign hopes will be emblematic of the charismatic congressman's support in the Badger state, a reliably Democratic enclave the Republican candidate hopes to turn red this fall.

"My veins run with cheese, bratwurst, a little Spotted Cow, Leinie's, and some Miller," Ryan said, mentioning two well-known local beers. "I was raised on the Packers, Badgers, Bucks and Brewers. I like to hunt here, I like to fish here, I like to snowmobile here. I even think ice fishing is interesting."

"I'm a Wisconsinite through and through," Ryan said to cheers from a crowd which contained many members of Ryan's extended family, and which the campaign estimated to be more than ten thousand strong, likely the largest turnout ever for a Romney event.

The energy generated by Ryan seemed to inspire the man at the top of ticket, who took on a heckler midway through his own remarks, then turned the moment into an indictment of President Obama's campaign, who's tactics have riled Romney in recent weeks.

As an outsider who, like many, has been paying a lot of attention to Wisconsin the past couple years, I surprisingly think we had a pretty decent shot at Wisconsin even before this. Because of the walker recall, we have a great gotv operation now and Obama’s numbers are really down there from earlier in the year.

Right now, we are seeing a lot of blue-leaning states in play, which is huge. If the Dems have to spread their cash to more states, they have less to spend in Ohio and Virginia.

Ryan is going to get big crowds in the midwest. The contrast with the lack of enthusiasm for obama will be a big problem for Team Kenya next week. All Barry can do is hide out with kids and union goons because the thrill is gone.

Maybe they can move the Obamao rally to a smaller venue so it doesn’t look so noticeably empty — maybe someplace more appropriate like an porta-potty.

LOL at the retarded logic and vacuous BS from the ABRR crowd.

This is only the beginning of the MSM suppressing the truth of the numbers that show up at the rallies.

The event had to be moved outside. Drudge reported the crowd 13,200.

Palin size crowds.

I don’t think Bill Clinton like Obama. Not sure how Hillary feels about him having been part of his administration.

I think Romney now has a shot at Wisconsin. All of us here are pretty much mean lean voting machines after the last two years of non stop elections.

We know each other from talk radio, Facebook, blogs and twitter. The get out the vote machine for the GOP now rivals legendary Chicago of yore, save for fraudulent dead guys voting, I think the turnout for Romney will be very high.

We have only one problem. The inner city of Milwaukee and a couple other locales around the State such as Racine. We passed a voter ID bill last year but it has been held up in the courts and won’t be in effect for the November election. Unfortunately Milwaukee precincts have been known for 100 percent turnout in presidential election years.

I can confirm the > 13K. My friend from Menomonee Falls volunteered at the turnstiles and that’s the number they had.

“Either way, we must start as soon as he wins the Presidency (if he does win).”

I do not agree with your logic and never will, especially now that the ticket is complete. This is our last shot to save what is left and turn it around. We have run out of time. Please wake up and smell the coffee.
You are leaving the heavy lifting to the rest of us, and if he comes in well then you will help out. Thanks, but no thanks to you. Take your toy and stay home is what you are going to do to teach them a lesson! Meanwhile the Republic is burning. Can you picture George Washington saying, “well, I really don’t want to fight because it might not go my way. I think I will just sit this one out”!
Even Palin who has been totally trashed will work her butt off to get behind candidates and support the ticket. For her it is Country First. She is the best example of turning the other cheek and for that I am so Thankful to her.

Yeah, you guys are pretty much all practiced and ready to go. I’m surpised the Unions have not attacked my governor. He took away their mural that was in the State House for ages and hid it on them. The courts sided with him on that one.

I think it was the unions that took down his new sign as you enter into the state which read “Welcome To Maine - Now open for business”.

It was stolen. I think by the unions (that’s what many think). Anyways, it’s been replaced.

That's a great point, and GOTV will make Wisconsin competetive for Romney. At the very least, it will force The Kenyan to defend Wisconsin, wasting precious resources he needs elsewhere.

The Ryan pick will play very well in Ohio. Ryan graduated from Miami of Ohio, which gives him a connection to the state. Romney's biggest problem here was always going to be turning out the vote; I think Ryan will help to unite and inspire the GOP base here like no one else (including Rob Portman, our Senator, who is liked but not loved).
