Israel has received assurances from the administration of Barack Obama, as well as the camp of Republican presumptive nominee, Mitt Romney, that the United States will join a war against Iran on Israel's side, if such a war breaks out.
The daily newspaper Maariv reported Monday that the assurances were delivered in secret messages to senior officials in the bureau of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, from officials close to Obama and from Romney political advisors as well as Republicans who served in senior roles in former administrations and are expected to serve in important roles again if Romney is elected.
According to the report, Israel believes that the U.S. military will supply "a protective umbrella" for Israel in case of a missile attack on Israel by Iran and its proxies Hamas and Hizbullah.
Israel has received similar messages from its U.S. ambassador Michael Oren, after talks he held in Washington, and from pro-Israel lobby AIPAC.

The “Arab Spring”/Muslim Brotherhood is a Sunni movement. Persian Muslims are not generally Arabs. Obama’s first speeches after inauguration were to Arab audiences. Whether he considers himself still to be Muslim is irrelevant. His closest security adviser, former deputy CIA Director and fluent Arabic speaking White House confident is John Brennan, who was rejected by the Democrat Congress when he was proposed for Director of National Security.
Running a protection racket with our tax money for the confederates of Huma Abedin’s family, Hillary's long-time personal assistant, whose mother and father are among founders of the Muslim Brotherhood, is why Obama will be happy, not to support Israel, but to let them fight the war with Iran, before demanding the return to 1967 borders, and the return of the Golan Heights to Syria, and relinquishing of the Israeli capital to the Muslim Brotherhood. Not a great bargain, but not a surprise.
A post dated check, drawn on a crashing bank.
We’ll get involved just enough to be of no practical value to Israel but it will further sour the muslim trash (if that’s possible) and cost us American lives and treasure.
No doubt, the U.S. owes Iran a major shipment of whipass. We should get around to it real soon. Just not with this administration.
Looks like “whipass” is coming...
The question really boils down to: what will happen to the global economy already in the pits?
That is the ONLY reason nobody is taking Iran out...yet.
As foretold thousands of years ago...
Let em stand on their own.
So will the Israelis bomb based on polls taken shortly before the election? I wonder how they will determine whether or not to do this before the election.
Who’s going to believe mac daddy whose first words as a baby were a lie.
The fact is no secret. It has been expressed over and over.
Treachery, thy name is Obama.
Israel should trust in such promises, but only to the appropriate extent. With Obama in office, that means not letting the US know about any attack until it is in progress and a warning from our White House to our enemies cannot get there any faster than calls for help from the targets will. Obama might help Israel, but only if it’s too late to betray them.
Well said.
This one especially. They will start deploying a protective umbrella after there is a missile attack? They are deploying one right now? They are planning to deploy one sometime soon? What’s in a promise?
Israel has had years to figure this thing out. Why is it seeming now to come right on the heels of an American election involving an islamist President? Is this a sort of empyrean play or something?
My God.
Will voters want to toss the Commander In Chief out of office during a major war?
Of course not! That would be crazy!.
