Will Ryan Help Obama Win Jewish Votes?
Jewish World Review ^ | Aug 13, 2012 | Jonathan Tobin

After Mitt Romney announced his choice for vice president, the consensus among Democrats is all they have to do to win in November is to mention one word: Medicare.

....First, those Jewish voters who are most vulnerable to Mediscare tactics were already going to vote for Obama. If you are the sort of person who truly believes the Republicans are going to throw Bubbe over the cliff, you probably were never sufficiently concerned about Obama's pressure on Israel and unwillingness to confront Iran to cross over to the GOP. The minority of American Jews who consider Israel's security to be a major influence on their votes are not going to be so easily bulldozed by the Mediscare routine. Voters who believe the president will sell out Israel are not the most receptive audience for a Democratic campaign based on the idea that Romney and Ryan will sell out the elderly.

I am Jewish and I hoped that if McCain got elected, then Sarah would be President (can't go into details).

Pamela Geller of the Atlas Shrugs blog was a member of Jews for Palin.

However, I think most Jews are against Sarah Palin and not for good reasons either. The adoption of Liberalism as a religious faith by many of my co religionists has not been good for America or for us Jews ourselves.

I think that many women, "city girls" especially, were put off by her love of guns, fishing, hunting, and the outdoors, as being "unlady-like."

It's a matter of cultural differences and parochialism and narrow-mindedness on the part of those "city girls." Even "city people" should be able to fathom that Americans, even women, from the wide open spaces of the rural and small-town West, into which Palin was born and raised, commonly enjoy those pastimes without having any sinister motives attached to them.

I think another reason for most liberals' vitriol towards Sarah was her stance on abortion, her acceptance of Bristol's out of wedlock birth, and most importantly, her decision to have Trigg, a baby born with birth defects.

There seems to be a big gap between what liberal women, and especially liberal Jewish women, say and do about abortion. I've met a number of these types who will rant about "a women's right to choose." They can speak out oh so vociferously. But, to the best of my knowledge, I've never met a Jewish woman in my life whom I know to have actually had an elective abortion. Maybe you could explain this phenomenon.

Nevada too.

Yes, I'm aware of the increasing Jewish population of Nevada and so is the Republican Jewish Coalition.

SJackson posted that the Jewish population of Nevada is 2.8%, which, because Jews are older statistically than the general population and tend to vote more, means that the percentage of Nevada's votes cast by Jews may be 4 or 5%. So yes, could make a difference in a tight race, but I think we're only talking 6 electoral votes there.

Jewish woman here who adores Sarah Palin. Did we skew your demographic yet?

I sure hope so. Any Jew who voted for Obama again belongs in an asylum.

Any Jew (my people) who are living with all senses functioning must vote for Romney, (I am not naive - I know the majority will not). I am a Conservative, Republican Jew and I supported Palin - I like seeing her haul around a 12-gauge shotgun, does not bother me in the least.
Palin is not Presidential material but given a few more years she may be. Right now we must support R&R.

You state there are between “...5.2 and 5.8 million Jews in America”. The question is, are the majority capable of stepping outside of the knee-jerk reflex “Republicans are greedy Capitalists and remind me of Nixon” stereotypes? I think not. We have a lot of work in front of us. The new Republican R&R ticket deserves our vote - now we have to get off our duffs and make sure many Jews do not make the same mistake, (voting for BHO) again, G-D FORBID!!!!

...the knee-jerk reflex “Republicans are greedy Capitalists and remind me of Nixon” stereotypes.

First time in quite a while I've heard the name Nixon brought up here.

There isn't much of a similarity between the ideology of Nixon on domestic and economic issues and the ideology of Reagan and of R&R today. Nixon was a big government Republican, with such creations as EPA and OSEA, and even engaged in the last US government effort at coercive wage and price controls.

In terms of his relationships with Jews, he is still very much admired in Israel for his administration's emergency assistance at the outset of the Yom Kippur War in 1973.

Of course, there are those leftist Jews who would call Nixon antisemitic because of some private remarks he made against them and their Jewish left cohorts, remarks that were never intended for public dissemination. However, it is equally true that Nixon maintained a few genuine and important friendships with some Jews who were very influential within his inner circle throughout his political career.

Correction to my post # 51:

Should be OSHA, not OSEA.

I bring up Nixon's name on purpose. The Baby Boomers are active politically and are involved and care about the current issues WITH AN OLD REFERENCE point (which colors their world view to this very day)of what I call the “Trilogy Period” which means those that remember:

1) Vietnam
2) Watergate
3) Nixon's resignation in disgrace

Many in that Baby Boomer crowd still see the word “Republican” as a cigar-chomping, greedy, Capitalist, Militant abuser of power.

There is MISTRUST and TREPIDATION regarding Republicans. Add that to the Evangelical, Pro-Life, Tea Party crowd and you get a Left-wing panick attack. These folks cannot permit themselves to “betray the cause”, (the cause is still anti-government, pro-civil rights, blah, blah, blah causes so, they vote Democrat in order to “preserve basic human dignity” (gag*).

The truth of what Republicans have represented or offered in the past is irrelevant. The label is permanent for the vast majority of Liberals and more-so for Jews who are terrified by a man who believes openly, in, of all things, G-d! Jews (assimilated ones) are septics and debunkers of faith.

Israelis, who live on the edge everyday (and who fight our fight) are indeed more realistic and conservative because, after all, death is close at hand. When they make mistakes or dream of peace, they get killed along with their children so yes, the appreciated Nixon very much.

Romney solicited money from Americans in Israel. Linking to lies from Hitler lovers doesn't help. Do you even think before you post?

45% of American Jews are Democrats (or worse). 25% are solid Republican. 40% are independent, although many of these are culturally liberal urban or suburban voters. I figure that Romney-Ryan would get 35%-40% of the Jewish vote this cycle if the election were held this week. The GOP might pick up 45% of the Jewish vote if the economy or middle east get bad enough. Either way, donations to Obama campaign are collapsing.

Jews DESPISED Sarah Palin. Romney/Ryan are guaranteed at least a 10% boost on the Jewish vote this time around without her, plus Obama’s horrid record on Israel. That is worth about 500,000 votes (based on 5 million Jewish voters, and they ALL vote). Moreover, the four states with the largest Jewish populations account for 127 of the 270 Electoral votes needed to secure the presidency.

Where did you find 5 million Jewish voters? The population is roughly 6 million in the US. The Wife and I support Sarah. There are two who did not despise her.
