Woman Becomes First Openly Gay General
The New York Times ^ | 8/12/2012 | Matthew L. Wald

WASHINGTON — An Army officer being promoted to brigadier general openly acknowledged her homosexuality on Friday by having her wife pin her star to her uniform, thus becoming the first openly gay officer of flag rank in the United States military.

The officer, Brig. Gen. Tammy S. Smith, 49, a 26-year veteran of the Army, was promoted in a ceremony at the women’s memorial at Arlington National Cemetery. The star was affixed by Tracey Hepner, who was a co-founder last year of the Military Partners and Families Coalition, which “provides support, resources, education and advocacy for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender military partners and their families,” according to its Web site.

The couple married in March 2011 in the District of Columbia.

OMG, no wonder I see many overweight people in the army .

So if I’m reading this right I would only have to do 10 push ups.
32 sit ups and over a 11 min mile.

Hell I could go out right now easily do that and that’s no training at my age.

That needs to be addressed surely, I’m in shock at how easy it is now from how it used to be.

WOW just WOW

“You don’t get to full colonel overnight, so she’s been violating the UCMJ for over 20 years, right?”

She has been in for 26 years. That means see entered service circa 1986...long before DADT. So, that means she lied to gain entrance into the military. Plus, even with the advent of DADT, you were still not allowed to engage in homosexual activity...which apparently she did. So, she was in violation of the law then also. Dishonerably behavior should NOT be rewarded by general officer rank. For that matter, military service. She DOES NOT exeplify the “Army Values” and has brought disgrace to the Army and country. She should be stripped of her commission and removed from service...not made a General Officer. This is a shameful matter, but no one in uniform dare publically say so.

I can hear you thinking this is only because of Obama, but Romney has made no promises to change anything. He is actually AWOL on the issue...like he was on the Chick-Fil-A issue. Romney as POTUS will not correct this horrid situation.

“All you do is smear Romney”

It is already self evident that Obama won’t fix this.

However, show us where Romney has said he would? He has clearly stated he will not. Why didn’t he get involved in the Chick-Fil-A protest? Because he is a homophile, and won’t make ANY diference.

I’m not voting for than kind of inaction.

OK, I guess I will have to confess ignorance. I don’t get what the heck you are trying to say?

Depends on age, but it was 42 push ups and 52 sit ups in two minutes. I forget the exact time limit for the 2-mile run, but it was less than 14 minutes.

Female recruits could do the push ups on their knees for some odd reason.

You stated that “Romney as POTUS will not correct this horrid situation.” Thus you are attempting to predict the future, just like the late fabled Monsieur Nostradamus.

It is a can of worms. If being homo is okay, then why not being an army officer? And if being a homo is okay, then why not publicly talking about it? I am preaching to the choir, but trying to think logically about this.

Just call be doubly backwards, but I’m not so sure I even like the idea of a female general. Let alone one that’s a carpet muncher.

I just can’t imagine a woman ordering a beach landing(for example) that will result in the deaths of thousands of young people on both sides. Needless to say, this woman is highly likely to be one of those generals that tend to be ‘political types’, rather than the ol’ Blood and Guts kind(the type you want commanding a field of battle) who isn’t afraid to piss some people off, no regardless of rank/pay grade..

Where it ends is, if being homosexual is okay, then why don’t we mandate that our teachers start teaching kindergarteners that they can grow up to marry either a man or a woman? And get them used to the idea as young as possible by having them holds hands and dance with both genders. Any encouragement of strictly heterosexual behavior would be discriminatory to those children who “God made gay” and make them feel out of place and ostracized, so the laws cannot allow that.

Alternatively, let’s ban all school dances, proms, Valentine exchanges, hand-holding, etc. on school property, because they would be so heavily weighted to heterosexual couples that it would be discriminatory and create a hostile environment to homosexual kids.

Certainly there is no way you can stop the above scenarios if same-sex marriage becomes legal. At that point you have official national equality and the above must be enforced, or you’ll have the lawyers banging at your door and walking away with all your money for violating equal protection.

You’ve never mentioned anything about your wife or girlfriend (I’m assuming that you are male) at your place of employment? You’ve never mentioned that you did this or that with your wife on the weekend or that your wife got sick or you’re going on vacation with your wife and kids? Now, if you did, wouldn’t you be revealing your sexual orientation to all of those people?

It’s impossible for people to keep things private about their personal life nowadays. If they did, most people would have nothing to talk about.

I’m not supporting this woman’s lifestyle, by the way. Just making a point.
