I grew up in dirt. You need some germs to keep your body alert and always on the lookout. Why do for it what it can very well do for itself.

I see these soaps that say, “Kills 99.99% of germs” and think, “What’s the point?” We gotta be perfectionists in everything? Only a surgeon needs to be that clean.

I use soap so I don’t get dirt on my clean, white shirt. I’m not trying to kill anything. Just take off the dirt.

I'm taking Dr. Bronner's Peppermint soap with me backpacking this next week.

Agreed. Why is it only newer products and chemicals that are singled out for so much scrutiny? This reminds me of the nitrate scare in the 70s. I worked with a lady who stopped bringing baloney sandwiches for lunch because she was spooked by the latest chemical bad guy. I told her that the 2 packs of cigs she smoked every day were going to get her long before the nitrates would.

Most of what passes for science these days is bogus. Any clown who can get a grant (and they are usually provided by government that loves a chance to scare people and issue more regulations) can put together a slip-shod study.

If all these chemicals are so toxic, why are we living longer than ever? It’s nonsense.

Phisohex mentioned on Seinfeld in the David Putty germophobe episode.

It’s good soap. I used it almost my whole career in the military and still do. Easy to pack, multi-purpose body soap. Small nalgene bottle will last for a year. Only takes a few drops. I still use it. Almond and or peppermint is what we buy.

Enjoy the trip !

***Breaking***

There is a new study just published in PNAS linking the exposure of “good old lye soap” with muscle function impairments which in turn increase muscle contractions and has the potential to contribute to MPD (multiple posting dysfunction).

The BEST stuff ever!!! I like the peppermint the most and been using it (backpacking, camping, and daily use) for at least 22 or 23 years. They’d better never find something toxic in there :0)

They breathed secondhand smoke. They cooked with lard. They drove around in death traps. Ate transfats...Many of them didn’t attend college. Some didn’t even graduate from Highschool...ect ect...???

Thanks for the link.

Nothing I use is on that list. I like Safeguard, which contains triclocarban, but that’s not indicated as dangerous.

I’ve had a heck of a time finding lye soap. I found some Octagon soap over a month ago at Big Lots, but it sold out quickly. Wal-mart carries Naptha soap in the laundry aisle.
