I wish my mother had aborted me
The Guardian ^ | 8/15/2012 | Lynn Beisner

If there is one thing that anti-choice activists do that makes me see red, it is when they parade out their poster children: men, women and children who were "targeted for abortion". They tell us "these people would not be alive today if abortion had been legal or if their mothers had made a different choice".

[....]

The narrative that anti-choice crusaders are telling is powerful, moving, and best of all it has a happy ending. It makes the woman who carries to term a hero, and for narrative purposes it hides her maternal failing. We cannot argue against heroic, redemptive, happy-ending fairytales using cold statistics. If we want to keep our reproductive rights, we must be willing to tell our stories, to be willing and able to say, "I love my life, but I wish my mother had aborted me."

An abortion would have absolutely been better for my mother. An abortion would have made it more likely that she would finish high school and get a college education. At college in the late 1960s, it seems likely she would have found feminism or psychology or something that would have helped her overcome her childhood trauma and pick better partners. She would have been better prepared when she had children. If nothing else, getting an abortion would have saved her from plunging into poverty. She likely would have stayed in the same socioeconomic strata as her parents and grandparents who were professors. I wish she had aborted me because I love her and want what is best for her.

Abortion would have been a better option for me. If you believe what reproductive scientists tell us, that I was nothing more than a conglomeration of cells, then there was nothing lost.

The author of that piece thinks that an abortion would have helped her Mom, but what she doesn’t realize is that her Mom didn’t have to feel guilt or remorse that afflicts women who abort their babies. An abortion would have only added to the problems she had. At least her mother made one wonderful great choice, the decision to give birth to her daughter!

I think I will pray for this woman. I hope she comes to understand her intrinsic worth, as well as her Mom’s worth.

Been praying for 20 years, your health is still good @ 60, but yet you claim no one is listening?

Perhaps it is YOU who is not listening? 60 years old and health still good? That is an amazing feat!!

You are wrong....He IS listening!

Just do me a favor....start looking for the “little miracles” we unfortunates dismiss in life.

They occur everyday. Unfortunately, we, as man, refuse to see them.

You can make up for it. You can go to the nearest bridge over a river, take a flying leap, and have a post birth abortion to fulfill what you wish your mom did. Well, what's the difference?

"An abortion would have made it more likely that she would finish high school and get a college education."

I was in highschool in Rochester, NY in the 60's. College wasn't pushed for females back then. Most classes females took were geared toward clerical work: typing, shorthand, bookkeeping. The only languages offered were French and Latin. Having a baby out of wedlock back then had more of a stigma attached to it, but if a person really cared about making their life better, they didn't have to have an abortion to do it.

What guarantee was there that this moron's mother would have finished highschool and gone on to college, even if she had had an abortion? This dope thinks that her mother would have been helped to pick better partners by feminism and psychology courses? I don't think feminism courses even existed in colleges during that time. And you don't learn how to pick better partners by taking a course. If you have half a brain, as you get older, you realize the patterns in your life that cause you to make bad decisions. If you don't learn from past mistakes, then you really don't want to change the way your life is going.

Even the useless blob who authored this pathetic piece has a soul. God will require it one day. “Then they will know that I am the Lord, as I make their land a desolate waste because of all the detestable things they have done.” Ezekial 33:29,

“Before the age of 14, I had never been to a sleepover, been allowed to talk to a friend on the phone, eaten in a restaurant, watched a television show, listened to the radio, read a non-Christian book, or even worn a pair of jeans.” Oh, the horror!

Actually it is a horror. It's insane to raise kids that way.

No kid should be raised in that strict of an environment. More often than not kids I have seen raised like that rebels when they get out in life via drugs, alcohol, porn or sluttiness or become atheist.

Her life has been a “Herculean struggle”? Here we come to the heart of a liberal. She thinks she’s a hero and wants everyone to know it. Liberals - self-centered.....self-absorbed......self-serving.....self-congratulating.....

I read it too, and it made me wonder just how much of this story is actually true: brain-damaged mother, cruel lecherous preacher, child abuse, etc. It seems like a leftist list of all the stereotyped perpetrators of victimhood, and in fact this woman's story seems to have much in common with those who perpetrate hoax “hate crimes” on themselves.

Finally, some of it just doesn't make sense. In one part the author says if she'd been aborted her mother could have become a professor, but in another she claims her mother was brain damaged. Jokes on the contemporary state of Academe aside, which is it? If you're brain damaged, you probably are not going to have an academic career.

Well, the least the author could do is commit suicide. Better late than never.

BS! I made poor choices early in life, had two kids, and recovered from poverty. It was a choice. And given that she had educated lineage, if she lived out her life in poverty, she chose to live out her life in poverty. It had nothing to do with having a child at an early age.

That part about life shouldn’t have to be a Herculean struggle that she wrote? What the dumb bitch forgets is that life is supposed be about struggle! Life was not meant to be a fairy tale.

I was in college in the 60s, and agree with your post. But back then, we were taught that you can avoid abortion by taking an aspirin. You take it, place it between your knees, and hold it there until your date is over. LOL!!

Hey Lynn!

A little advise for you.

DON'T TELL BARACK OBAMA YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABORTED!

It's never to late for him to support your abortion.
