If I had to keep my arsenal, unfortunately lost in a boating accident, in a safe,,,,, It would be close by. And if the combo was 37-17-39,,,, you can bet the first two numbers would already be entered, and the dial set on 38!

This is an invitation to kooks. “Hey look, we can’t defend ourselves.”

Just about every other university in the country has similar policies.

Here in the People’s Republic, even with a CW permit, carrying a concealed weapon on a college campus is illegal.

I always keep my guns locked up...that’s where they’re the most useful when they’re needed most.

Grin... I get the sarcasm.

As I read your post, I have my 9mm literally on the desk in front of the computer monitor. As someone who is in a position to know pointed out to me - you don't want your personal defense weapon under your bed. You want it with you at all times, even at home. Increasingly home invasions are happening when people are not in bed asleep. These guys know that's where you probably have a firearm within reach, so they do their thing when you're not in bed. So everyone, keep your firearms on your person or within reach at all times. You don't want someone to kick in your door, and then realize they are between you and your self defense weapon.

CU is only doing this as to housing it owns. They are saying that as a landlord we are banning guns from our property.

That is a violation of the law; specifically the State's constitution:

Art. II, Section 13

The right of no person to keep and bear arms in defense of his home, person and property, or in aid of the civil power when thereto legally summoned, shall be called in question; but nothing herein contained shall be construed to justify the practice of carrying concealed weapons.

Arguing that they, as landlord, can ban guns from their property is in accordance and harmony with the State's Constitution is the same argument as saying that contracts of an employee may be binding upon their children (i.e. that their involuntary servitude isn't involuntary servitude because their guardian authorized it).

A theater may be able to do that..

No, that is not the case; CO State constitution, Art. II, Section 13:
The right of no person to keep and bear arms in defense of his home, person and property, or in aid of the civil power when thereto legally summoned, shall be called in question; but nothing herein contained shall be construed to justify the practice of carrying concealed weapons.

UC is a government institution, there are NO private property rights like the theater.

Irrelevant. In CO the right to keep and bear arms cannot legally be questioned, much less denied. See post 35.

If you want to split hairs, if he is a renter, it isn't "his" home - it's the landlord's.

There will probably be a lawsuit and I can't tell you how it might come out. It's only recently the courts have acknowledged the Second Amendment is an individual right.

Even so, what about "person or property"?

I did not cite the second amendment, nor does the second need to be cited in such a case; if it were, however, it should be in conjunction with 18 USC § 242 - Deprivation of rights under color of law, which is a felony... and considering it is a school, and there are multiple people involved in policy creation, 18 USC § 241 - Conspiracy against rights also applies.
