Police say a would-be carjacking ended with a twist in Hialeah Wednesday night when the victim turned the tables on the alleged suspect.
Some time before 10:30 p.m., officers say 41-year-old Orlando Garcia told them he was chasing someone who stole his car. The two caught up near 16th Avenue on Okeechobee Road, stepped out of cars, and got into a fight.
2 Men Rob, Carjack Woman at ATM: Cops
"There's a confrontation between these two men," said Hialeah Public Information Officer Eddie Rodriguez. "That's when one man arms himself with a handgun and fires."
Investigators say the gunman shot the suspected carjacker, identified as 35-year-old Leobel Gonzalez, in the leg at least once, and left him with cuts on his face. Fire Rescue crews took the alleged thief to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he was recovering Thursday morning.

Castle Doctrine?
Had a police officer chased down the suspect and fired a shot after the perp resisted violently, there would be no charges filed against the Police Officer.
I’ll be interesed to see if the citizen is treated any differently.
The way things are going, all we need to do is to train citizens to do paperwork and we won’t need police to “Serve & Protect” at all.
(I am being cynical of course)
It’s good to see citizens effectively combatting crime.
Hijacking a car, bad
Hijacker gettitg shot by car owner, good
Concealed Carry Law-priceless
“Carjacking Suspect Shot by Victim in Hialeah”
I thought he was shot in the leg?
Carjacking Suspect Shot by Victim in Hialeah
I thought he was shot in the leg?>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
It could have been much worse, the Suspect could have been shot in the Lowaleah instead of the Hialeah.
shouldn’t that be ...shot by intended victim?
Did the alleged carjacker actually get away with stealing the car?
Nice Friday feel-good though!
This is Florida. Anywhere but Miami (including Hialeah) he would ge his gun back quickly. In that part of the state, perhaps a little less than quickly.
Concealed Carry not even necessary if he was carrying it in the car he was in.
Almost got him in the fracas...its terrible when that happens.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Its horrible , if they had gotten him in the fracas, then there would have been no way he could have been transported.
Can you imagine having fracass spread all over the road?
Should we send flaars?
Folks recoverin' in the hospital needs flaars.
