St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office
Five people have been charged with attempted first-degree murder after shootings yesterday in Louisiana killed two officers and injured two others.
And an additional suspect was charged with being an accessory after the fact, The Associated Press reported Friday.
Terry Smith, Derrick Smith, Kyle David Joekel, Teniecha Bright, Brian Lyn Smith, and Chanel Skains are all facing charges stemming from the two early-morning shootouts in St. John the Baptist Parish.
In the first incident, a gunman shot an officer who was working traffic duty at a Valero plant parking lot in the area. In the second, officers were "ambushed" while investigating the first shooting, Sheriff Mike Tregre said.
Officers Brandon Nielson and Jeremy Triche died in yesterday's second shooting.
Two of the suspects were injured when they were arrested.
Law enforcement would not go into detail about the suspects' criminal backgrounds or their injuries. Police also would not disclose any other details about the shooting, the AP reported.

I have no idea what the charge would mean.
I found this...
What is the difference in first degree murder and principle of first degree murder?
One describes the actual act, the other is a philosophical matter for discussion.
Suspects Identified In LaPlace Shootings

LAPLACE - Authorities identified the group of suspects arrested in connection with a pair of shootings that claimed the lives of two sheriff's deputies in LaPlace and wounded two others.
Investigators released the names and charges of the people arrested in connection with the shootings Thursday. The charges listed relate only to the shooting of Deputy Michael Boyington, who was injured but not killed:
* Terry Smith, 44 - Principal to attempted first degree murder of a police officer
* Brian Lyn Smith, 24 - Attempted first degree murder of a police officer
* Derrick Smith, 22 - Principal to attempted first degree murder of a police officer
* Kyle David Joekel, 28 - Principal to attempted first degree murder of a police officer
* Teniecha Bright, 21 - Principal to attempted first degree murder of a police officer
* Chanel Skains, 37 - Accessory to attempted first degree murder of a police officer
* Britney Keith, 23 - Accessory to attempted first degree murder of a police officer
State Police Col. Mike Edmonson said Brian Smith and Kyle Joekel, who were both shot during the confrontation with police, were still recovering from their injuries at nearby hospitals. Joekel was also also wanted for charges in Nebraska, according to a sheriff's office there.
Sheriff Mike Tregre with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office said he met with the families of the two slain deputies, Brandon Nielsen and Jeremy Triche. He also met with the two deputies stilll recovering from their injuries, Jason Triche and Michael Boyington, and said their recovery was going "very well."
Edmonson said investigators could also postively place five of the suspects at the location of the first shooting, which happened outside the Valero Energy plant around 5:30 a.m. Thursday. Investigators said the group drove up and shot Boyington as he worked an off-duty traffic detail outside the plant.
From there, deputies followed tips to a nearby trailer park. There Tregre said they were "ambushed" while taking two people into custody by a person with an assault rifle. In the ensuing firefighter Nielsen and Jeremy Triche were killed, and Jason Triche was injured.
Edmonson said they were still piecing together exactly who did what during the shootings. He said investigators had to log multiple weapons that were used and other evidence from the spread-out crime scenes, and also had to deal with a rainfall after the investigation began.
Edmonson also said they were communicating with state and federal law enforcement agencies about the suspects' backgrounds. He said he could not confirm if one of the suspects was part of a federally-watched anarchist group, or if it had any relevance to the investigation.
"We're hearing all that," he said, "We're going to work at a pace that deals with facts."
Tregre said bank accounts to help the families of the wounded or fallen deputies had been set up with the Louisiana Federal Credit Union and Community Bank. A candlelight vigil to honor the deputies is scheduled for 8 p.m. tonight at the sheriff's office in LaPlace.
That’s OK. Maybe it’s something like “commit to commit murder”; a variant on criminal conspiracy law in Louisiana.
She doesn’t look like that any longer - that is why I said meth heads. They all look like they are.
That’s OK. Maybe it’s something like “conspiracy to commit murder”; a variant on criminal conspiracy law in Louisiana.
Probably a distinction between “The actual murderer” and “Accomplice”.
So basically, it’s related in some way to “conspiracy to commit murder”. They sat around and said, “Hey....let’s off some cops.” Which would constitute conspiracy, I’m pretty sure.
WIKI give the following on ‘principal’
Under criminal law, a principal is any actor who is primarily responsible for a criminal offense.[1] Such an actor is distinguished from others who may also be subject to criminal liability as accomplices, accessories or conspirators.

Then I stand corrected. Creepy bunch of kids, that’s for sure.
interesting. the link i posted yesterday afternoon to the shreveport times (first article specifying names and an ongoing investigation already on this crew for at least “two months” and a “three-inch thick file”) has disappeared from the shreveport times web.
If the actual shooter is identified I would imagine some charges will be escalated.
Yeah, you don’t get that complexion from Noxzema.
can’t find it on the site anymore, but could be the tablet i have to use.
The seventh suspect placed into custody is Brittney Keith, 23, of LaPlace. She is charged with accessory after the fact to attempted first degree murder of a police officer.
DeSoto Parish lieutenant Robert Davidson said the suspected shooters were Kyle Joekel, 29, and Brian Smith.
Try this article from the Times and I think you find the info you are referencing, 3 pages in total.
Yep - there are pics of the oldest guy, Terry, on Chanel's Facebook page. He looks quite a bit different too (more so than the year or two since the photo was taken would account for). Several pics of him using a computer... bet he's left some internet footprints, too.
