Teens having less oral sex, study says
Los Angeles Times ^ | August 16, 2012 | Monte Morin

Kids today! Could smartphones and social media be distracting them from sex?

A report on teen sexual activity released Thursday by the National Center for Health Statistics found an overall decrease in the practice of oral sex among 15- to 19-year-olds between 2002 and 2010. That finding reflected a similar decline in vaginal intercourse among the same group, according to health experts.

They are distracting some of them from LIFE. That's all some kids do when they're awake. And they probably have earbuds in all day, too.

Ever see a teen out to dinner with the family. Ear buds and phone, ignoring everyone, buried in their own little reality? The parents usually do nothing. "Family stuff is just so--boring!"

These are also the kids of the purity ring generation and have had several celebrities discuss chaste lifestyles and being virgins that hold out until the wedding night. Some kids are taking to this message.

As a parent of several teenagers in the Washington DC area I can tell you sex among middle and high school children was very common. The schools taught sex education that encouraged young people to be open to their sexuality and handed out free condoms.

I taught my children strong spiritual and tradition values. I taught them to be responsible for their personal decisions and to not be influenced by peer pressure. I also took my family to mass every week and regularly encouraged my children to live their lives by strong traditional values. My wife strongly encouraged our daughters to have moral values and to respect themselves.

All of my daughters were virgins in their teens.

I taught my sons to be gentlemen and to by considerate and respectful of young women. I told them to never feel they had to impress their friends by being sexually active.

All my children thanked me and told me they respected me for taking a strong moral stand.

Many of their classmates became pregnant and/or contracted sexually transmitted diseases.

This article from the Washington Post gives you an idea of the attitudes among young people in the area when my kids were growing up.

Porn - you don’t have to talk to them or get to know them or date. It’s over in a few minutes and you get on with whatever you were doing before you started.

Allegedly, it is epidemic in Japan where young males aren’t even interestedin young females - Too much trouble.

Know what the problem with oral sex is ?

The view.

The main problem with oral sex is that a person can pick up a STI or STD by engaging it it.

One of the better ways to dissuade premarital sex is to teach children about venereal diseases and their effects. A little bit of bacteriophobia is good for them.

Based on anecdotal accounts, I really believe that today’s teens are FAR more conservative than their older siblings, parents, and in many cases, their grandparents...

Maybe moneywise, but they've been Glee-ified with regards to social stuff. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of the government budding out and pretty much keeping itself to trade and defense but there's gotta be a common morality in the culture I believe (that people hold on their own without the government telling them to).

hm... anyone else find it hard to believe that only 43% of young people have had sex?

Had this survey been taken in the 60s when I was a teen ager and especially at my school, darn near 100% of the boys would have claimed to have had sex and probably fully 100% of the girls surveyed would have said they had never had sex. Have times changed that much? Don't teens still lie about their sexual experience, especially we boys? What 15-18 year old boy would admit to anyone that he's still a virgin?

The first time I saw oral sex portrayed in a movie was HURRY SUNDOWN (1967). It took me a while to figure what the gal was doing to the guy behind the wheel.

I later noticed it hinted at in THE MALTESE FALCON when Peter Lorie was playing with his cane.

In where, the Amish ordnuns?

I have a teen stepdaughter now. Her friends are foul-mouthed, disrespectful, lecherous, bi-curious, willing to make out with anything with a pulse, and almost VIOLENTLY liberal.

Luckily one of the worst offenders, a feral chick who has caught the attention of the stepdaughter's hormones, will be moving out of the area soon. Maybe we can break her of this crap.

Is your only exposure to the world of metal through radio, or through angsty adolescents?

There’s many millions of people all around the world that would disagree you vehemently. There’s a reason the album they put out in 2010 reached 3rd on US Billboard.

My wife and I have had 4 teens in our past and currently have a 12 and 13 year old, 3 boys and 3 girls and am proud to say that my wife and I have raised and are raising children as you described in your reply number 23.

My wife and I are raising them in a Christian home, that's not a 100% certainty that they will turn out right but so far so good, as 4 of them are grown and have their own children.

The other factor that has helped enormously, is that 2 parent thing, each being opposite sex to the other.

(Puffing up proudly) We have 6 children, 14 grand children (one more on the way) and 4 great grand children (one more on the way).

Japan’s females feel the same way. This is the exact goal of feminism (lesbianism).

I can't believe you said that.. I though I was a freak for thinking that so long ago.. Whew, maybe we both are freaks or that was just our superior perception at such a young age.. I'll assume the later.. LOL

If you knew the effects it has on the individual and society, you might choose something else. Check out this book:

Consequence of the "sexual revolution" and the misandry of feminism that dominates pop culture and politics?

(With apologies to the late Gilda Radner, aka “Emily LaTela’’) “Whats all this talk about ‘’oral sex?’’ Who goes around talking about sex? I’m mean, it’s a personal thing. I don’t wanna hear about who is doing what behind closed doors, after all.. it’s what? Oh. Oh My! Never mind.’’
