Q&A: Oregon Police Chief leads lonely charge for stricter gun buyer background checks (Wisconsin)
Capital Times ^ | 19 aug 2012 | Steven Elbow

In an era in which pro-gun advocates have been racking up a string of victories, Doug Pettit is trying to hit the brakes. The Oregon police chief, who serves as the legislative chairman for the Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Association, is one of the most vocal proponents of expanding background checks for gun buyers.

Pettit and his group are part of a national push by the National Law Enforcement Partnership to Prevent Gun Violence, which hopes to convince federal lawmakers to mandate background checks on people who purchase guns at gun shows, flea markets and other venues that don’t involve licensed gun dealers.

No more compromise! All they do is want more and more in the future, while we give more and more. It stops NOW!

Move to North Korea if you want to live in total gun control.

"For the first time in a very long time, more law enforcement officers lost their lives through gun violence in 2011 than lost their lives in car crashes"

someone needs to call out this jackass and ask him of all those shootings, how many of them we by a violent felon who used a firearm that NIC would have never allowed in the first place. These people are absolutely off their rockers. You really must have a mental defect if you can't see that gun laws and restrictions aren't doing anything other than making life difficult and more expensive for the law-abiding.

Oregon Wisconsin is a village in Dane County, and is about 8 miles south of Madison. A lot of former Madison people, especially state employees have moved there over the years. Most are liberal, big government and vote Democrat. It is nice rolling land and a lot of horse owners live there or stable their horses in the area.

Crime is minimal so the Police Chief has lots of time to spend on the agenda of the National and State Police Chiefs associations - which toe the line with liberal mayors such as NYC Bloomberg and Madison Mayor Soglin (a 70’s hippy dippy).

They want to require private sales to go through the background check system, but they know for a fact that private citizens can't access the system, thus ending private sales of firearms.

And they wonder why citizens aren't stupid enough to go along with the ruse.

I’ll bet this chief received training from the Southern Poverty Law Center. Or ‘re-education’ as the Communists use to call it...

The Fast and Furious loophole is orders of magnitude more dangerous than the "gun show loophole."

And it was perpetrated by LEOs.

Furthermore, LEOs are far more likely to commit a violent crime with a gun than are concealed-carry permit-holders.

We need to close the LEO loophole.

2 of my classmates from high school class of 1957 live in Oregon, Wis. It is about 9 miles from the farm house I grew up in.

There are OVER 600,000 hunters in Wisconsin who have licenses.

I understand that in the 2011 hunting season, there was not one single death due to hunting accidents.

Seems the 600,000 hunting ‘army’ in Wisconsin is more disciplined than the Afghanistan people our military is ‘training’ to take over the security for their own country.

The gang problems in Madison are migrating to Oregon, Mt Horeb, Evansville, Edgerton, Sun Prairie, DeForest & other suburbs of Madison.

The police need to get the trouble makers put away for a very long time, if not put underground.

My brother has said that in all the years of living where he is in Madison, he has NEVER heard so many sirens after dark as he hears now. I fear for his safety.

This anti-Bill of Rights thug can’t understand why the NRA, the nation’s oldest civil rights organization, has the power it has. Well, it’s because people like him want to infringe our rights.

He should be removed from the force and bared from ever being a cop again.
