I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. He’s a good man and so many people here are freaking out. It’s ridiculous! Here is the latest statement from akin.org.

Akin Statement on “Jaco Report” Interview

St. Louis - Congressman Todd Akin just released the following statement regarding his interview on the “Jaco Report” broadcast this morning in St. Louis:

“As a member of Congress, I believe that working to protect the most vulnerable in our society is one of my most important responsibilities, and that includes protecting both the unborn and victims of sexual assault. In reviewing my off-the-cuff remarks, it’s clear that I misspoke in this interview and it does not reflect the deep empathy I hold for the thousands of women who are raped and abused every year. Those who perpetrate these crimes are the lowest of the low in our society and their victims will have no stronger advocate in the Senate to help ensure they have the justice they deserve.

“I recognize that abortion, and particularly in the case of rape, is a very emotionally charged issue. But I believe deeply in the protection of all life and I do not believe that harming another innocent victim is the right course of action. I also recognize that there are those who, like my opponent, support abortion and I understand I may not have their support in this election.

“But I also believe that this election is about a wide-range of very important issues, starting with the economy and the type of country we will be leaving our children and grandchildren. We’ve had 42 straight months of unacceptably high unemployment, trillion dollar deficits, and Democratic leaders in Washington who are focused on growing government, instead of jobs. That is my primary focus in this campaign and while there are those who want to distract from that, knowing they cannot defend the Democrats’ failed economic record of the last four years, that will continue to be my focus in the months ahead.”

My instincts here are to get a bad candidate off the list as soon as possible and put in someone without the problem that got the other one in trouble. A woman replacing him would be a good idea.

Let me guess??? Sarah Steelman, right???

It won't happen.

And BTW Missouri is still the Bible Belt. Things play different in Missouri than they do in Florida or other parts of the country -- and this soundbite will as well.

Aikin has been saying these things to voters in his district for over a decade and winning large majorities. That he is religiously prolife without exception as this soundbite indicates is not a surprise to anyone in Missouri.

As a matter of fact his district in northwest St Louis County is actually quite liberal compared to other areas outstate that are very prolife.

So get a grip. He misspoke and I'm sure he has learned a lesson from it.

Apologize and move on. Defeat CM. Apologize and move on. Defeat CM. Apologize and move on. Defeat CM.

“Like the current VP has often done, I said something that came out completely wrong. Rape is rape. Period. Pregnancy from rape is always a possibility. That is a fact. Rapists should be dealt with swiftly and harshly. Rape victims need all the comfort and support we can offer. That is what I truly believe.

I also believe we need to make sure the campaign to defeat CM continues with a focus on her failure of the people in Missouri AND the Presidents failure of the American people.”

What’s the problem?

True!

All I hear is 'we are doomed', 'he can't win'!

He used a poor choice of words, nothing more.

This is like walking the bases loaded with no one out in a one run game and Prince Fielder coming up. Talk about giving one away.

He didn't profess any ‘moral authority’ he was making a comment about a medical issue and how the female body reacts to such a violent violation.

Palin is not the issue here, you Palin worshippers need to get over the fact that she is going to be a very minor political figure in the near future.

I don’t think it’s that big of a deal.

$25 to FR from the loser of this bet if you take it; If this guy is still in the race during the Presidential debates there will be a question to Romney that pertains to his comment.

You on?

Oh no, someone with some actual facts!

Lets not them get in the way of proclaiming the GOP candidate a loser.

Exactly. We can parse Akin`s statement all day long, but the voters “on the fence” about that race.. and even those leaning toward Akin.. will very likely stick with McCaskill. This, after she has trailed all GOPers for months.

Idiot. A friggin` idiot. And this was so winnable. Akin may very well have, by his action, locked in Obamacare for all time, since this may hand the dems contined Senate control.

And how many of those 1000 go to the hospital and are administered the morning after pill? Considering that is normal protocol for rape victims, no wonder there is few pregnancies.

I don’t care what his political affiliation is, he has no business representing anyone.

What could have been. Oh well, looks like we’re stuck with 6 more years of McCaskill, thanks to the Missouri GOP. Idiots.
