"Top Gun" director Tony Scott fatally jumped off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro on Sunday afternoon, according to Los Angeles police sources.

His body was pulled out of the water by Los Angeles Police Department, California Highway Patrol and U.S. Coast Guard officials.

Investigators found a suicide note in his car, which was parked on the bridge.

Law enforcement sources said several witnesses saw Scott, the brother of director Ridley Scott, climb over a fence on the bridge and jump off.

The coroner's office identified him Sunday evening.

Scott was a respected action-movie director who also made "Enemy of the State," "Beverly Hills Cop II" and "Crimson Tide."

I have driven over the Thomas Vincent bridge at the Port of L.A. and it’s one of the highest elevated bridges in Los Angeles. Can’t believe he did that.

The Last Boy Scout is one of my all time favorites. They don’t make them that way anymore. RIP to one of the best.

I think the start of the film TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A. shows the main character doing a bungee jumping off Vincent Thomas Bridge...

In many cases yes. In some, not so much. Some people are out of their minds crazy and do it.

Not knowing anything about what he was facing or going through I am not going to make a judgment one way or the other.

No, they saw someone who looked like him.

This whole thing smells.

A 68 year old man climbs an 8-10 foot high fence in front of people and jumps of an incredibly high bridge?

WAY wrong age for such a stunt!

It's just like a movie script!

And the title of the movie? "I committed suicide - really, promise, everyone saw it, you can't say it didn't happen - dramatically and in Technicolor!"

Bull. I say he's in Tahiti, free from his family and financial obligations, sitting on a yacht.

“Suiside is the cowards way out.”

Wow! How hard-nosed of you. You don’t know the situation.

BTW, if you are going to pass judgement, maybe you should learn to spell first.

It’s “suicide,” chump.

Anyone who would do that to his wife and kids is a coward.

I don’t care what his “situation” was.

Hi wife and kids deserved better.

TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A.

One of my favorite movies, and one of the best car chases ever. I liked the Wang Chung soundtrack, too.

Well... They did recover the body so I guess the plan you described may not be much of a stroke of genius.
You know, with DNA and all.

Suiside is the cowards way out

"Bravery" and "cowardice" have nothing to do with it.

Do not go gentle into that still night. Dylan Thomas.

I do not want to die between the sheets. Ambrose Bierce.

Those such as Mr. Scott who live their lives creating drama, often want to leave their this life with the same drama.

I cannot nor I shall not pass judgment on him.

That said it well may be a more noble death to jump off a bridge, than to have your fate decided by one Barry’s death panels.
