Akin Must Pull Out!
Dick Morris.com ^ | August 21,2012 | Dick Morris

Posted on 08/21/2012 11:21:46 AM PDT by Hojczyk

The Republican Party threw away a Senate seat in Delaware in 2010 when it nominated Christine O’Donnell for the Senate. Her comments about witchcraft made her unelectable. Now, with the balance of power in the Senate — and the fate of America — dependent on our ability to win the Senate this year, Missouri Republican candidate Todd Akin (who just narrowly won his primary with 36% of the vote in a three way race) has similarly disqualified himself with his absurd contention that pregnancy after rape is “rare” because, somehow, women’s bodies “shut it down” in cases of “legitimate rape.”

Apart from the ridiculous nature of his contention and his insensitivity in making it public, lies the fact that Claire McCaskill will make hay of it and likely get re-elected because of it. Her seat was very vulnerable before Akin spouted off. She was trailing Akin by nine points, the largest margin of Republican lead over a Democratic incumbent Senator in the country.

Akin must not throw away this seat in a monumental act of ego. He has until 5 PM on Tuesday (today) to withdraw. If he does so, likely Sarah Steelman, who narrowly lost to him, will be the nominee. Sarah, endorsed by Sarah Palin, could beat McCaskill woman-against-woman and we could survive Akin’s remarks.

If he doesn’t go voluntarily, he will have to be taken out by the party. Surely there is someone who has enough on him to make him leave. DUI? Mistress? Something? Anything?

Akin should pull out WHEN Bubba Klintoon keynote speaker at the RAT convention and RAPIST, pulls out. How about the buffoon 'Chains' Biden pulling out?
Hang tough and dump the RINOS and e-GOP who constantly turn the GOP into a circular firing squad. I see over and over why I left the GOP in 2006.

The gop-e has already stuck their nose where is didn’t belong. They forced romney on us by helping him cheat, lie and steal the primary. They lost voters like me with their tactics; are they going for broke and trying to push out ALL true conservatives? My Missouri friends are hot at what the gop-e is trying to do. Morris, Rove, Jeb Bush and his dad, Drudge, Beck, Coulter, Faux News, Hume.....are starting to act like the dictator, Obama, they complain about. They need to back off or they will lose even more conservatives.

Yeah, due to his stupid statements, the well has been poisoned on the question of abortion in rape cases, probably for months, maybe even a year. And that’s assuming that he doesn’t continue to be be a gaffe-machine until the elections.

He won’t go. Just another power grabbing, out for himself pol. Business is business. And Akin’s business is to hand Obama another 4 years. Make no mistake...it’s now Obama vs. THE BIGGGEST BUFFOON IN THE COUNTRY. Guess who wins? Wonder how that will play in church Sunday morning? Ugh!!!

I have heard he only won through Dem crossover votes in the open primary. And $2 million that the Dems put into his primary campaign.

Well, I wanted George Allen and Trent Lott to fight back, when they were under fire. They wimped out, in an embarrassingly pathetic manner. I stood by Christine O’Donnell, an admittedly weak candidate with some very distinct flaws, but shouldn’t have been trashed by the GOP-E like she was. I stood by Sharon Angle, a better candidate, whom I still believe gets unfairly maligned.

Harder for me to stand by this Akin guy. His comment was just horrid. It made my skin crawl. Even though I’m pro-life and very much a social conservative, and I ‘think’ I get what he was trying to say. But it was a grotesque, terminal failure in the communication department, which somehow even managed to offend my own sensibilities. I have a feeling he’ll do it again. In fact, with McCaskill’s campaign having spent $1.5 to $2 million just to help prop him up as the candidate she most desired, I have a notion the Dems probably have older video footage of Akin in their hands, saying some other similar goofball stuff. All ready to be put in commercials.

Bad, bad situation. He’s now the “GOP Rape Guy,” and the media is tying him with Paul Ryan, who will undoubtedly be dubbed the “Other GOP Rape Guy.” The whole Dem Convention will probably be railing against “the GOP and Rape.” The whole thing brings back memories of 2006, but on steroids.

Akin will not go voluntarily. He will be forced to drop out of the campaign sometime in the near future after his funds dry up (he no longer has financial support from the GOP).

The bad part of it is that it will be too late to replace him. The democrats will, by default, win the seat.

In response to the headline; it's too bad his father didn't.
