McCaskill wants Akin to stay in the race (Missouri update)
The Hill ^ | August 21, 2012 | Daniel Strauss

Posted on 08/21/2012 4:15:07 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) would prefer for Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) to remain her reelection opponent.

"Elections are sacred, there was an election, so I think the voters of Missouri should be respected [and] not have some big wig fancy people from Washington come in here and threaten him that he's got to drop out," McCaskill said, according to St. Louis television station KTVS.

Akin was the Republican primary contender that McCaskill and the Democrats were hoping for, prior to his controversial statements on rape that have prompted GOP calls for him to quit. That his remarks might have injured his candidacy makes him all the more attractive to the Democrats. McCaskill, however, did not emphasize the political calculations in her remarks to the TV station.

She said it would be a "radical" event for Akin to drop out and the state GOP to pick another candidate.

I live in an individual state and believe strongly in state’s rights. I’ll worry about the people who represent me and have so far been smart enough to stay away from this local issue.

I didn’t vote for this guy when he was on American Idol and I’m not going to vote for him now.

“Why don’t Republicans have the discipline that Democrats have?”

Oh, you mean the kind of discipline Bill Clinton had when he was impeached for dispicable behavior unbecoming a President? . . or the way Barney Frank held the line against those wascwally Wepublicans when his former boyfriend was running a prostitute ring out of Frank’s residence? . . or the way Anthony Weiner hesitated a long time before he was deserted by his buds? . . and on and on and on . . .

I managed to not avoid hearing most of the CBS evening news. Nothing but Akin. Made me so angry I had to leave the room.

If Akin is a Democrat plant, he has done a wonderful job.

The McCaskill team got themselves the Washington Generals...and they’re taking the show on the road.

So if you venture an opinion on any other State's congressman or senator, I'm free to call you a hypocrite? Just setting the ground rules.

Exactly what is Akin’s line of work when he’s not a politician. My vision of him is that of town fool. He doesn’t get it does he? If he’s elected which is very doubtful, he’ll have as much respect as a streaker at a funeral.

Might as well start now because I can guarantee I'll criticize congressmen from other states.

If Obama is a MUSLIM plant, he has done a much, much better job. Do you feel his pain or will it take a 2nd term to really get through to you?

Wouldn’t it be great if Akin surprised everybody and won the Missouri Senate seat without any help from the national GOP or their Super PACs and became the deciding vote on Obamacare???

Yes, I bet she would, since it pretty much guarantees her a job for the next six years at least.

Ahh, yes, Missouri, where elections are soooooooooo sacred that even a dead guy gets to stay on the ballot. And ends up winning at that.

No, I mean the kind of discipline where your party directs you to do something and you do it. This man has likely just lost that Senate seat that we were likely to win. That kind of discipline, like when Weiner left his Congressional seat when Bill Clinton ordered it. Like how the Dems voted for Obamacare when Pelosi demanded they do so. That kind of discipline.

He is leading in the polls in the same way that Obama is leading in the polls.....polls do not reflect reality, they attempt to create it.
