Doctor behind Todd Akin's rape theory was a Romney surrogate in 2007
LA Times ^

A physician and former president of the National Right to Life Committee, Willke was an “important surrogate” for Romney’s 2008 presidential bid. Willke is the oft-cited source of the theory that rape-related pregnancies are “rare.” The theory is sometimes used by antiabortion advocates to argue that abortion laws should not contain exceptions for pregnancies that result from rape or incest.

Willke believes that trauma caused by violent rape causes a woman’s reproductive system to shut down. He presents this belief as fact in educational materials, including a book about abortion and a website called abortionfacts.com. Willke’s views – and his role in promoting a theory that has been widely rejected in modern medicine – appear not to have concerned Romney in 2007, when he touted Willke’s endorsement.

I’m not usually one to go for conspiracy theories but I have a growing suspicion that the Dems are holding something over Akin’s head and preventing him from stepping down. His entire reasoning for staying in sounded so discombobulated and logically unsound, that it could very well be that he is getting blackmailed with something.

So...now will all the PhonyCon Pro-Aborts call for Romney to step down?

Come on Hannity, Levin, and all the other PhonyCons....Romney is linked to the Doctor that made Rep Akin make the “legitimate rape” comment.

If all the people who are calling for Akin to step down, and do not call for Romney to step down...are nothing but Liberal PhonyCon Pro-Aborts.

It’s only day 2. But this too will go away not before long.

Yeah, they'll let up on Palin after a week or so of bashing after she's announced as the VP candidate...

Pure Alinsky.

So if Romney is responsible for any statement of whomever gave him a past endorsement, wouldn’t that make Obama even more responsible for anything Bill Ayers, Tony Rezko or George Soros ever said or did?

A shark feeding frenzy has nothing on the liberal media, they’re going to desperately try and get Akin to create new gaffe’s, saying something equally dumb or dumber. When they smell blood, they attack with a viciousness that is unparalleled in nature. Even a tiger has more respect for its victims.

Here we go. Leg, meet rabid pitbull.

Yup. Look how long the media kept on with the tax thing. Day after day, month after month. Now they have Aikin. The only way the media lets go of this is if something even juicier comes along.

I wasn’t arguing about McCaskill winning. I’m arguing about the influence of this outside of Missouri. People are freaking out when this will have ZERO play outside of Missouri.

Right you are. Romney had to lie to win the primary, saying he is completely pro-life, that was until yesterday when he said he is for abortion for rape and incest. Innocent babies should be brutally murdered for the sins of their fathers, right? And don't forget he thinks gays should be able to adopt innocent children. Why did anyone believe anything he said.

Some people around here would go along with the gop and romney if they said chidlren should be taught about homosexuality at age 5. Oh wait, Romney did mandate that in his state. The gop and romney are making it clear that conservatives should get in the back of the bus. I have a better idea. How about we find a brave new party?

Did Romney ask him to resign for the good of the country???

The doctor, and Rep Akin, are 100% correct! Pregnancy by rape is so rare that it can’t be explained other than to attribute it to the woman’s body’s rejection of the rapist. To believe anything else is to be a pawn of the leftist media.

No it is not. The pregnancy rate for those raped in fact is higher than those who merely have consensual sex ( as opposed to those in a marriage who are not practicing birth control). You obviously have not read the studies....and your understanding of conception is also obvious lacking. Sperm does not have to be deposited INTO the vagina to result in pregnancy. A woman does not have to be ovulating to get pregnant----please go back and find out abut conception. If this s what you have taught your children they are grossly misinformed

This whole thing is orchestrated. The commies have photos of akin banging a pony.

If only that were proven so! Unfortunately he's just a out of touch moronic man who thinks he's above everyone else on some kind of providential crusade in destined to move up to a Senator's pay grade.

Kind of hard to believe Romney was clueless about his whacked out theories.

Ridiculous. At that level, all Romney's campaign probably knew about this quack was he was a former head of NRLC and they could "check off" a major pro-life endorsement.

You are far off the mark about those of us calling Akin to step down from Sarah Palin to Mark Levin to John Ashcroft to Ron Johnson to Paul Ryan and on and on down to through countless freepers including me.

Your post looks suspiciously like a "PhonyCon" to me; why am I'm not surprised you've been here just two months?

If this s what you have taught your children they are grossly misinformed Maybe you need a refresher on "conception" yourself.

How do you get pregnant without ovulation when, by definition ovulation means a mature egg was released from an ovary, traveled down the fallopian tube and is waiting to be fertilized?

To avoid talk of deviance, I won't even ask where you think sperm can be deposited to cause pregnancy.

Because very simply sometimes the act of intercourse can cause ovulation. Moreover one could have already ovulated and the egg has not yet been shed. You obviously need to tke a course in reproductive science
