Doctor behind Todd Akin's rape theory was a Romney surrogate in 2007
LA Times ^

A physician and former president of the National Right to Life Committee, Willke was an “important surrogate” for Romney’s 2008 presidential bid. Willke is the oft-cited source of the theory that rape-related pregnancies are “rare.” The theory is sometimes used by antiabortion advocates to argue that abortion laws should not contain exceptions for pregnancies that result from rape or incest.

Willke believes that trauma caused by violent rape causes a woman’s reproductive system to shut down. He presents this belief as fact in educational materials, including a book about abortion and a website called abortionfacts.com. Willke’s views – and his role in promoting a theory that has been widely rejected in modern medicine – appear not to have concerned Romney in 2007, when he touted Willke’s endorsement.

Pregnancy by rape is indeed rare. But not for the reasons that Akin gave. First, the woman has to be ovulating. Second, the rapist has to be fertile. Third, the rapist has to ejaculate in the victim's vagina. And there may be more reasons, but these three alone make it a rare occurrence.

So because he endorsed Romney, that means Romney agreed with everything he said or wrote?

This theory is a hell of a lot older than 2007.
It was, in fact, predominantly taught when I was a kid in the sixties and seventies.

A lot of crap was.

Girls “wanted it” and “rape doesn't happen to boys” and “after a while they just get over it” and “Children won't even remember”.

Akin is a grown man though. He should know better by now.
He couldn't trouble himself to read news and statistics on crime every now and then?

I slammed him early.
Yeah, I am aware of how he got the notion, but that does not excuse it.

They won’t. In November you can apologize to those saying so.

He could have stated any of those reasons and been perfectly fine, but no, he had to go full retard instead.

When you cannot define yourself and stay on message your political opponent will only be too happy to do that for you. Abortion now seems to be the issue. How convenient for the democrats.

Huffington post is reporting that it dates back to nazi Germany according to gateway pundit website. I don’t even understand why any pro life group would even get into this kind of debate or study. Why can’t we just say that we don’t believe in abortion unless the life of mother is at stake. Period. End of story.

Kind of hard to believe Romney was clueless about his whacked out theories.

And that is what this is really about. It has nothing to do with the science, nothing to do with who wants to help women. All it has to do with is what the lying vultures in the media are going to do with this.

If this country’s existence now rests on what the lying vultures are going to do, this country is already dead meat.

I am so sick of the way things are in this country right now. This morning somebody posted a link to a scholarly article talking about the effect of trauma on implantation and the likelihood of miscarriage. Does it matter what the research says? Nobody is talking about what the research does or doesn’t say. That’s because truth doesn’t matter, and that disgusts me, regardless of which political direction that post-modern crap comes from.

I’m so disgusted. The fate of this country depends on which way the vultures might caw and peck. Pathetic.

It's fascinating to see what interests our media these days... and by contrast, what doesn't.

And when McCaskill wins in November assuming Akin doesn’t drop-out, do they get to kiss my backside or what? Because right now there’s absolutely no support for Akin anywhere, not from within the Republican Party, nor anywhere else.
