Toke One For The Gipper: Preckwinkle Says Reagan Deserves “A Special Place In Hell” For War On Drugs

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle defended the city's move to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana by saying former President Ronald Reagan deserves "a special place in hell" for "making drug use political." Preckwinkle has been an outspoken advocate of decriminalizing pot because she says drug laws unfairly lead to minorities behind bars.

Preckwinkle has never shied from making her drug stance known, and she didn't mince words with the crowd attending the conference led by former Republican Gov. Jim Edgar at the University of Illinois Institute of Government and Public Affairs in Urbana-Champaign. It sounds like there were more than a few Republicans in the audience, who might be big fans of the Gipper.

Crowd gasps after Preckwinkle says “Reagan deserves a special place in Hell”

August 21, 2012
By Anne Sorock

Toni Preckwinkle, Cook County Board president and Barack Obama loyalist, may have misread the crowd in downstate Illinois today when she said that President Reagan “deserves a special place in Hell” at a luncheon at the University of Illinois.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the crowd “gasped” after the remarks, which she made in reference to the larger War on Drugs under Presidents George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan.

Republican state Rep. Chapin Rose questioned whether such an approach includes drug treatment for those who are ticketed. Preckwinkle said no, arguing that drug treatment should be part of health care system, not criminal justice. She said Reagan deserves a “special place in hell” for his involvement in “making drug use political.”

“What? You didn’t like that?” Preckwinkle said after members of the audience gasped.

What makes Preckwinkle’s off-color remarks even more ill-placed is that she was speaking at “The Opportunities and Responsibilities of Public Service” conference, the goals of which is to foster better relationships between policy makers of different political parties and backgrounds.

Preckwinkle has been advocating reducing penalties for marijuana arrests, and was speaking about the city of Chicago’s recent change to decriminalize the drug.

"Politics is supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first."

Obviously not the sharpest tool in the shed since Nixon actually started the Drug War. I mean if she’s going to slander a Republican as is obviously her wont, she might as well get the correct one. Heck, Nixon is already well hated plenty by the lefties.

“...because she says drug laws unfairly lead to minorities behind bars”

Democrats say they need preferential treat in school because they're stupid, that they are drug addicts, that they can't vote because they can't get ID’s, but black people keep on smiling. Go figure.

Preckwinkle is a short sighted shrew!

The Reagan's driving herb underground sparked a scientific Renaissance in the breeding of cannabush. There are literally thousands of different hybrid breeds now, compared to about a dozen then.

Nanny staters take note! God given desire can not be regulated. Where there is a will, there will be a way. Right or wrong, HE gives us the choice.

The word DOPE refers not to the substance but to the user.

No democrat from Cook County has any right to criticize anyone. These people are literally the scum of the earth.

ridiculous blame anyway

Nixon is the one who amped up WOD more than anyone

but going after dope has been around since the 30s when the Democrats owned our government

Nixon and the Bushes have been as big or bigger proponents of the drug war than Reagan

it's been a failure no question and has resulted in some serious extra Constitutional forays....conspiracy and confiscations and no probable cause searches come to mind

but on the other hand...drug use has mushroomed and the societal dangers are what they are

but to blame Reagan is silly

Why do drug laws “unfairly put minorities behind bars?”

Why is the distribution not proportional to the population?

Why is crack use disproportional?

Does she already know the answers to these questions?
