BOSTON In another step to distance himself from his party, Massachusetts Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown is asking GOP leaders to be more inclusive on the issue of abortion.
In a letter released Tuesday, Brown asks Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, to drop the anti-abortion plank in the party platform.
If we are to grow and succeed in all parts of this great nation, we must be a big-tent party, Brown wrote. There are people of goodwill on both sides of the abortion issue, and we need to send a message to voters that there is room in the Republican Party for differing perspectives.

Yes, because having a Republican who will vote to confirm your SC nominees who would happen to be pro-life vs having a Democrat that will support every form of abortion, retroactively if they could get away with it, is so much better.
It’ll be good to feel smug and righteous having about 30 votes in the Senate, completely powerless and unable to stop anything the Democrats do of course, but smug and righteous.
Fact is, Republicans need every senate vote they can get, especially after that debacle in Missouri. Romney may have to replace a couple Supreme Court justices, that’s a hell of a lot harder to do with a Senate controlled by Dingy Harry and that’s really the only chance of abortion ever getting overturned in the first place is through the SC.
For the year 2010 (the latest report they've done and Brown's first year in the Senate),Mr Bennet of Utah, for example, got 15%...Mr Lahey of Vermont got 100% and Scott Brown got 20%.
As a lifelong resident of Massachusetts I can assure you all that regardless of how imperfect Brown might be he's the ***very best*** that we'll ever get from the state. That's how far this state has fallen into the cesspool.
TURN THE TABLES on the Pro-Aborts!
The Rape & Incest exception argument has been a Fraud and a Red Herring for over 40 years.
DO NOT answer that question!
Instead, say:
This argument has been a Fraud and a Red Herring for over 40 years!
Bring me the legislation containing this exception, and THEN we can begin to talk.
NOBODY, has EVER brought forth legislation with this language, yet it is used to beat up Pro-Lifers at every turn!
Would YOU support such restrictions on abortion?
You can go on to say, you would sign such legislation, because it is a starting point that would save over 1 Million lives a year.
That depends on whether or not she calls for a write-in candidate to run against Scott Brown in Massachusetts.
"Is there room in the tent for me, Scott?"
All flags are flying, the accelerator is mashed into the floorboard, and there’s a cliff up ahead.
Seems to me that Ronald Reagan had an appropriate comment for such situations.
If Reince Priebus has any balls, he’d tell Mr Brown to resign the GOP and join the Dems.
Exactly. But that's ok... he'll be attacked for it because Elizabeth Warren is so much better for moving along a conservative agenda. /s
False. Abortion was legal in all 50 states prior to Roe v. Wade in cases of danger to the life of the woman. Only 2.8% of women have an abortion due to a risk to maternal health. Medically speaking it is not even considered an abortion because the purpose is not to abort the child but rather to save the mother's life. Any possibility of saving the baby would also be employed.
Retch..puke...Warren's face is the face of the future of America, unfortunately. When I have to vote for Warren is when I'd stop voting and I'd definitely vote for Brown over that beotch.
Great post. Don’t think for a moment these people are conservatives. A couple of weeks ago they were on every thread trying to convince us that Obama and Romney were no different. They’re goal is to maximize the number of democrats in office and don’t ever forget that. There style is to attack from the right and travel in packs and post quickly and often. I thought this place was toast but I watched as this sleeping giant came back and squished them into pulp. The thought of re-electing Obama for another 4 year term was way too much. It has been quite a thing of joy to watch. This lame attempt to win back the “Kennedy seat” for the dems is as pathetic as it is laughable. I have been keeping a list and you should too. Judge Bork will offer up strong prolife SC judges and Brown will vote for every last one of them. When they overturn Roe v Wade I know the Florida legislature will make abortion illegal and Gov. Scott will sign it. Massachusetts never will but Brown doesn’t get a vote on it anyway. No is the time to keep a close watch on your state legislatures, that is where the next civil war will be fought.
Nice straw man. I wasn’t on any thread two weeks ago.
The tired old claim that “You support Obama/McCaskill/Warren/ etc” is exactly like the race card. Its used by people who have no argument and no courage to admit it.
You can’t find an issue more central to conservatism than abortion and those who find it acceptable should stop lying to themselves and vote democrat. The GOP has been moderated into a coma and the moderates need to moderate the party that actually needs them.
There are a few of use still on FR who know what is is like to live in an occupied state.
This is the first time in my life I’ve lived in a battleground state. Feels much better than MN, CA or OR.
Personally, I would rather have God on our side than more (Rino) Republicans, and I dont see how advocating baby-killing is going to endear us to our heavenly FatherYou said a mouthful there!!!
I agree. Politics is important to me but it isn’t my god. If no one can be found to run for office that doesn’t even have respect for life then I have no respect for them and will give them no support. I will meet the Death Cult on some other battle field.
You have some good candidates and I am glad for that. If it sounded like I was inferring that I would abandon politics entirely that wasn’t my intention. (just to clarify) I will vote for every ticket and issue that doesn’t require me to make a false choice.
Not the reasonable person of good will, Scott Brown, and the big tent, reasonable people of good will he represents and speaks for.
In this improbably match, we have on side the unborn, the now reviled and openly hated, generally reliable supporter of life, Akin, now nominated by his remarks to be the pro-life face of the GOP.
Interesting how the board gets set sometimes.
We seem to be at a rare time, a passing of the old guard, now diseased and failing with the mark of the progressive beast.
