Oh what the hell? EPA likes us burning corn for fuel!
Yes we are that stupid.
For MANY, MANY, MANY, decades we, as Americans, tried to show the world how to grow more food than they could possible eat.
So much food that they could BURN the leftovers to warm their homes, fuel their cars, and STILL have mountains and mountains of leftovers.
They essentially gave us the collective finger.
There is a price to pay for persistent, purposeful and arrogant stupidity.
LET THE BASTARDS STARVE TO DEATH.
Who wants to bet that, instead of doing the smart thing, government’s gonna find a new way to complicate life and institute food rationing? Can’t let a good crisis go to waste, ya know /sarc
And how to not get AIDS and other deadly viruses. And how to dig water wells. And how to dispose of waste. And how to use condoms. And how to...
American central planners are sounding like Soviet central planners. Bad weather is the cause of food shortages. This is a classic example of government interference with the free market causing disastrous results. If ethanol made economic sense, private entrepreneurs would be producing it and selling it. The EPA is stalling American productivity and the Dept. of Energy is Orwellian. It produces no energy but actually inhibits the production of oil and coal.
No Keystone pipeline, no drilling here or there. Regulations galore and no end in sight. go figure!
Absent some pretty draconian changes in export laws - even if we have abundance*, competition from foreign buyers will necessarily drive prices here at home...
Lots and lots of food that nobody can afford is the same thing as not enough food...
(*I notice that the gaggle of FReeper Posters claiming ‘billions and billions of tons of food reserves stored by the Gummint’ has pretty much disappeared from these threads.. I wonder what happened to the ‘billions and billions’ - mice??)
Bravo! Well said.
Remember, ethanol is not being used as a fuel. It is being used as an additive to satisfy a false notion that burning it with gasoline will help save the planet. The insanity behind this idea is deadly to our way of life.
Fantastic. Now the US is fighting OPEC funded terrorism by not exporting foodstuffs at affordable prices. Let the world point make the connection to Islamic terrorism, the need for bio-fuel to offset Mid-East oil and hunger. Kudos USofA for starving the enemies of America, or at least getting bigger portion of their otherwise disposable income. Once people are reduced to basic survival all the external politics will no longer fuel their instincts.
Why fear OPEC when we have a Mooslim in the White House?
Biden is twice as smart as Obammy. How scary is that?
Come on folks, if we do not throw him out, we are screwed.
Yes, but.... we also have inundated the world with “free” crops as foreign aid that had the effect of putting local farmers out of business. Was this really a foreign policy decision? Nope! Just like corn ethanol, sugar tariffs, “free” government cheese, and the real purpose of the food stamp program, it is a gift from politicians to farmers. And if you think Republicans are against this welfare to agriculture, you haven’t been listening to Sen. Grassley (super weasel) and other farm state politicians.
Whenever government intervenes in markets, it leads to disaster.
Ethanol: the bipartisan effort to starve down overpopulating (see overly visible, irksome) peasants while putting more fuel into authorized commuter jets for political regulators. Our leading constituents—beneficent geniuses—have the situation under control.
Sad to say, this is another Bag-O-Crap that is part of the Bush-43 legacy.
It is amazing and depressing to think of how many leftist dreams he brought to reality by his actions, and how many others he made possible by his intentional failure to act.
The Bush “brothers” are not with out sin.
It is time for us to fix the wrong.
I don’t care who we point fingers at.
Just fix it.
Admit it America.
when raising my children, I told them, if you know your were wrong, admit it. Learn from it. Don’t do it again.
Our problem, no one will admit when there idea was a total turd.
make there, their
I just got email from my English Teacher...lol
Or, equivalently, send free food overseas using US tax money, which would jack up consumer prices here.
We should NEVER give food to other nations, except in case of natural emergency.
They can either buy it from us, or starve.
