Democrats are working to make a Missouri congressman's controversial comment about rape an issue in the heated 7th Congressional District race.
Republican Rep. Todd Akin has come under fire from politicians on both sides of the aisle for saying in a televised interview that a woman's body has the ability to block pregnancy in cases of what he called "legitimate rape." He has apologized for the remarks, but rejected calls from Republican leaders and politicians, including presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, to drop his U.S. Senate campaign against Missouri Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill.
Rep. Dan Lungren, R-Gold River, denounced the comments in a statement posted to his campaign Twitter feed Tuesday.
"As a husband and father, I was deeply disturbed by the recent comments of Todd Akin," he said. "The ideas he expressed are simply incomprehensible."
His opponent, Elk Grove Democrat Ami Bera, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee sought to tie the Republican incumbent to Akin. Bera, who has worked as a physician, targeted Lungren's support for legislation aimed at cutting federal funding for abortion in a release issued Tuesday.

Had Akin withdrawn immediately, as a sane person would have done after realizing the stupidity of their statement, this issue would be dead.
Instead it is consuming the race and killing the momentum Romney was starting to bid.
Akin’s hubris may wind up taking down the whole party.

I agree. They look ridiculous. It is becoming all too obvious that they want to talk about anything other than the state of the economy, the debt, the massive deficits, and Obamacare. They want to distract from issues rather than offer solutions.

The AKIN-ization of an entire party’s candidates is sickening but not unexpected from a group of desperate maroons like the DEms.
Nobody in the English speaking word had heard the expression “legitimate rape” prior to the genius’ from Missouri invention of it! And to this day nobody knows what the genius meant by it.
If the Pro-Abort PhonyCons would just shut up...go back with their Democrat friends...and get off Akin’s case. He is not going to quit...get over it. The Pro-Life Conservatives won.
Yes they are... Just think, the week of Dem convention crappy jobs and economic data will be coming out and they will be talking about abortion.. This could back fire on them.
Seems I remember reading about the head of an abortion clinic who quit when she saw a video of an actual abortion. That video needs to be shown at a dem convention since it is what they are wanting to be defined by.
They need to get off these distractions thrown up by the rats and focus on the economy.

At this point, Akin is as big a threat to the pro-life movement as Obama is.

Akin is radioactive. The commie press will repeat his insane remark 24 hours a day every day until he’s gone, using it to try and tar every other Republican in 2012 and to avoid having to report on the economy and Obama’s record in general. This is what the commie media have been waiting for: a way to define Republicans as extremist nut jobs, and Akin is their perfect storm. I don’t care who he is or what he stands for, Akin has simply got to go. Period.
