I do think it is important to let the FRiends know what kind of man they are throwing stones at. I wonder if those throwing the biggest stones could hold a candle to Akin's conservative credentials.

We're throwing stones at his intrasigence, not his background. Do you fail to see how he... all by himself... is running a dagger into any chance of flipping the Senate?

It doesn’t matter where he stands on issues if he is politically tone deaf.

90% Akin’s fault, and 10% the fault of the whole GOP, and that’s being generous.

And that 10% is well worth it to prevent losing 2-3% outside of Missouri.

With every Republican and Conservative trashing this guy, what would you expect? You CAUSED this poll result!

It is an embarrassing and tragic thing to watch this mob mentality.

Ann Coulter: “.....Now I officially hate him.” Not Obama, but a principled, devout Christian, PRO LIFE, Conservative.

SHAME on you Ann and the rest of you haters.

Bond has retired and I don’t think he has the belly fire for another six years in DC.

NO, it is the fault Rep. Akin himself that brought this on.

If Akin withdraws and Missourians are left with only a 'write-in' opportunity to defeat McCaskill, how close to zero are the odds that McCaskill will be unseated?

Further away from the giant goosegg of a chance that Akin has of winning.

I don't understand the thinking of some people. It's not like we have 85% of the Senate already and a 4.5% unemployment rate and peace in the world and we're running a surplus.

We need every seat we can get and still I hear from some (not you) Oh, no big deal. Maybe he'll get a bump like Obama did after Bin Laden was killed

The only thing Akin is killing is our chances to repeal ObamaCare.

Ad hominem attack before noon, already?

I see a double standard. I see a good man like Akin brutalized by his own party, with your help. I see all of Romney's anti-conservative career blunders glossed over, with your help. If by "delusional" you mean "conservative instead of republican", then yes I am clearly delusional. But that would be your verbal blunder, like Akin's, using the wrong word for the wrong purpose.

I think Rasmussen got this poll out quickly to slap Akin back to reality. If he stays in now, he’s clinically insane.

Eh, I'd put Katherine Harris in there...probably the worst conservative fantasy candidate derangement syndrome I've ever seen surrounding her.

Sorry, did you mean to post this to me? I don't see how it fits in the thread.

it is the fault Rep. Akin himself that brought this on.

And his supporters (outside his state).

Yes, Akin is the blame but you can bet that if the seat is lost and or Romney loses the election because of losing Missouri, the RINOs will be blaming us conservatives.

Spot-on. That's the larger issue here. We need EVERY win we can get. And mark my words...Akin's stubbornness is going to drag down Romney's campaign in that state, too. If he loses Missouri... say hello to at least four more years of Obama.

I voted for Todd Akin. There, I said it.

I voted for Akin in his House races since I've lived in his district. This is a safe, conservative district, and he's had only token opposition. He hasn't had to work hard, he hasn't been put to the test, he hasn't been heard much in public. I was satisfied with his solid conservative record, i.e., how he pushes the buttons in Congress.

In the Senate primary this year, I didn't like either John Brunner or Sarah Steelman. I was turned off by Brunner's ads and his self-paid, TV-commercial candidacy. I did not like Steelman's reputation as a sore loser, non-team-player. And the "Mavericky Me vs. the Good Old Boys Club" shtick has grown wearisome. Palin's endorsement made no difference to me one way or the other.

All three candidates, Brunner, Steelman, and Akin, were similarly conservative on the issues. I was satisfied with Akin's voting record, he's my congressman, and I was not turned off by his campaign, which was fairly quiet. So I voted for Akin.

I knew McCaskill wanted Akin as her opponent. She was trailing Akin in the polls by slightly less than to the others. McCaskill painted Akin as "too extreme for Missouri." But for me and a lot of conservative Republicans, that was fine, since we agree with Akin on the issues. We knew what McCaskill was doing, but thought, "OK, Claire, you think Akin's your best chance, but we'll still beat you!" (It was not "Dem crossover votes" that won it for Akin, btw. Those votes were relatively few, and may have helped his winning margin a little but not decisively.)

Little did we know--little did I know--that Akin would screw up this badly, this quickly. I figured he would at least be an average, capable politician who would be able to not step on obvious landmines. Play it safe, stay on message, and we've got a win. Oopsie!

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

Not based on his polarization, although it might be fun, it is based on his brilliance and the home-state name, that is all....
