The commanding officer of a Florida-based warship was removed from the post during an overseas deployment after several female crew members alleged that he sexually harassed women aboard ship, a Navy report shows.

Cmdr. Derick Armstrong was relieved of command in May, about six months after his promotion to the top job aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS The Sullivans. Of the 1,500 commanding officers in the Navy, 22 were removed from the job last year for various reasons.

Armstrong is among a dozen commanding officers removed so far this year.

Thank goodness there are no hostilities ongoing. Today’s navy has no time to fight.

You would THINK that by the time an otherwise intelligent, educated Naval OFFICER reached this rank - he would know what is permissable and not permissable as the Senior Officer of a naval weapon of war. You would THINK he would know how to address fellow professional Officers and seamen.

But, apparently ... you would be wrong.

No excuse for him. No excuse for females aboard warships.

I wonder if he told them to have a “good day” or something like that?

In today’s P.C. world the best thing a Manager/Captain/Leader can do to protect their self is to ALWAYS have a witness to conversations involving the opposite sex and to NEVER be “alone” with a subordinate. At least keep the door open to the office so that someone can see that nothing untoward is occurring.

"Armstrong is among a dozen commanding officers removed so far this year"

And the emasculation of men continues. This is the LAST place emasculation should be happening. Kick all females and gays OUT of the military. It's bad enough they've destroyed the typical American workplace with 'personality reviews' instead of 'performance reviews'.

There are about 250 US Navy Ships and 50 US Navy bases...

Why so many commanding officers...?

Of the 1,500 commanding officers in the Navy, 22 were removed from the job last year for various reasons.

Got that right. They're too busy being A Global Force For Good.

The common mistake of Totalitarian Governments - replacing competent (and until I hear otherwise, I’ll assume that the guy is a competent sailor and commander) commanders with politically reliable lock-step toadies...

The fact that the process is in place, and accelerating, does not bode well on any number of levels...

Yes one would assume that. But as one of the commenters at the link said, maybe there were red flags in his career
and overlooked for the sake of diversity in fast-tracking a black to stardom - as done in other professions - regardless of qualifications.

Remember the background of the Ft. Hood shooter?

I just don’t understand what happened or what changed. Twenty years ago you never read about these things happening ever. Now all of a sudden they happen all the time.

What could have changed? I just can’t figure it out. Maybe the ships are too big or the seas have risen. I just don’t know.

Women do not belong on warships. They’re obviously a distraction on these ships and should be removed in the name of combat efficiency.

Sounds like this guy thought he was a king rather than a commander. I see it in the Army, too.

One crew member said he looked at her "like I am something to eat" and that after a female crew member briefed Armstrong, his eyes went "straight to her behind."

I do this to attractive women at least 100 times per day...and some are hot women I work with.

let’s start with aircraft squadrons, each of whom has a commanding officer... 9 squadrons on a carrier, 12 carriers, that makes 108 right there..

each aircraft carrier has an airwing commander.. that makes another 12

each carrier group has a commanding officer (admiral) that makes another 12 right there..

Many bsses have multiple commands that are tenants on the base. So, while Naval Air Station Pensacola is just one base, there are many COs resident on the base — such as the CO of the Naval Hospital, the CO of a squadron of planes, and the CO of a Seabee Unit, for example.

Each individual unit has some sort of a commanding officer.

To give you an analogous example from the Army, with which I am more familiar. I was in a battalion that had 6 companies, a headquarters company and five line companies. Each had a commanding officer, so in the battalion you had seven commanding officers, 1 battalion commander and six company commanders.

In the Navy probably most “commanding officers” are people in command of various land based support and training units.

Wait until there are open homosexuals in positions of power that will enable them to prey on young men and women.

Just wait.

Of course, we will likely never hear about any of it, because it will be squelched in the press.
