Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who is out-fundraising President Barack Obama by impressive margins, is attracting thousands of donors this summer from traditionally Democratic areas of the United States, collecting millions of dollars in even progressive communities from New York to Los Angeles, according to an analysis by The Associated Press of new campaign data.

Donors from tony neighborhoods of Manhattan to even the famously liberal Castro neighborhood in San Francisco helped Romney and the GOP outraise Obama by more than $25 million in July, beating him and the Democratic Party in contributions for a third consecutive month...

Hahahahaha! If Mitt Romney cured cancer tonight, by 10:00 A.M. tomorrow you’d be on here bitching because he didn’t tackle sickle cell anemia and the mumps.

If Romney’s media blitz is anywhere near as effective as the ads he unleashed on his primary competition this could get ugly. Romney is not spending much right now as Obama seems to be spending much more than he is raising. Considering the suspect methodology used in many of the daily polls it is obvious that Romney in this thing.

His energy plan was brilliant gamesmanship because it forces Obama to respond to a negative for his campaign. Middle America understands the impact of high energy costs and unions even understand the jobs it could bring (see Keystone). We learned in the primaries that Romney’s media team is very aggressive and effective.

Outside of political junkies like us, there are not many people paying attention right now. Mittens is raising a ridiculous amount of money to unleash when it counts and Obama can’t even fill a high school gymnasium. The internal polling numbers for both campaigns will be revealed soon when they announce when/where they are going to start blitzing the airwaves. If either side starts buying packages in states the talking heads are saying are completely safe for Obama I will feel confident going into election day that Obama will be on the lecture circuit next year.

Under FEC rules, he can't spend general campaign money until he is formally nominated by the Republican Party or some such. Barack Obama has no idea what's in store for him starting the day after the convention. Plus, the Romney-friendly SuperPACS have almost a BILLION dollars saved up!! I almost feel sorry for the chump.

If they have that much money they should try expanding this to have a heavy combination of positive and negative ads to the third tier states where the media markets are not saturated where these ads would go uncontested - like Washington state, Maine, Connecticut, New Jersey, Oregon, Minnesota and even maybe Illinois and Hawaii to see if there is any effect (without reducing their presence in the top tier battlegrounds...if they actually have a ‘billion’ dollars they should be able to do that easily). Since the ads would go unresponded to, I bet the impact could be significant...if it forced Obama and the DNC to divert resources just to be able to hold on to them that would be very effective as it would weaken their position in the top tier battleground states to have to fight back where it was supposed to be “safe” even if ultimately those states did not end up turning red.

You are correct. However, I don’t think Romney would be spending the money now even if he could. He got a good free shot with his energy plan and that is going to be very effective. This administration has no ideas and a record of failure.... they can only campaign on fear and the politics of division.

Every time Romney can specifically lay out a plan to improve the economy the President will respond with the normal stereotypical message because he has nothing. No plan and no clue. I think the anti-Obama ads are going to be brutal and I hope they use his own words against him repeatedly to show the sheeple that this guy was a big mistake.

I believe they have a gameplan to keep the President on the defensive and play the newscycles to multiply and compliment their ad runs. Romney’s background in business (and his success) does not make me think of John McCain who never looked like he really wanted it. McCain spent most of his time on the defensive and looked hurt that his media friends turned on him. Romney is in this to win after watching him in the primaries and he has had four years to plan for the next few months.

Obama breezed to victory in 08 thanks to many things -

Bush fatigue (he ran against Bush - not McCain)

war fatigue (what has he really changed?) and few seem to pay attention now since the media does not

the grand unity candidate as the first black President (he has divided us in every way and people got that out of their system)

an adoring media (the media seems to be trying to salvage some credibility although they are still in the tank)

a very weak GOP candidate that would not fight (I don’t expect Romney to lay down like McCain) although Romney is not a heavyweight like Gingrich

The most powerful Obama tool was the mysterious magic of undefined “hope and change.” That won’t work this time. He has a record and it is not flattering.

Obama and his campaign can only win through division and even the sheeple are going to see that for what it is - a negative campaign and cynical politics. Obama has lost the magic.

I laughed at the Dems complaining about Romney raising more money then the Messiah.
And history reminded me how the RATs threw it in our faces in 2008 when Zero
out raised McCain.

Stuck pigs.

Leftist Romney getting support from “progressive areas” of the U.S. Where’s the surprise in this? It continues to be bizarre how the left continues to assume, or, at the very least, pretends to assume, that everybody within the GOP is very conservative, on most to all issues.

How the HELL can it be legal for a politician to borrow money to spend for his campaign; if they lose then then are own the money on-hand — banking laws are corrupt if now Obama can spent more than he actually has — you should not be able t BUY influence beyond your actual support.
