Rasmussen: Missouri - Obama 47 Romney 46
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 8/23/2012 | Rasmussen

As the controversy over Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin’s “legitimate rape” comment continues, Mitt Romney’s lead in Missouri has vanished.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Missouri Voters finds President Obama with 47% support to Romney’s 46%. Three percent (3%) favor some other candidate in the race, and three percent (3%) more are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

These delusional nuts are really going to be the end of us.

I am convinced the AKin supporters are really just ABR’s who found a new way to get obama re-elected.

Not “pure”
Not “principled”
Not “productive”

Just FOS!

Of course the guy needs to leave.

However, this poll was taken in the heat of the controversy, which was ONLY less than 5 days ago. It’s an emotional response that will even out over the next week, and at best it only give O a margin of error tie.

So the panicking is a bit overdone, people.

Ignorance can be cured. In your case, all it takes is reading the Missouri statues on replacement of candidates who resign. Quit spreading nonsense. Clair McCaskill is mighty glad that you are doing it, oh by the way.

Thank you for your honesty - you rather sink the ship than change course.

Akin needs to go and be booted right up the rear out of the race.

Well, he ain’t, so what’s your plan B?

Lose the election.

Akin is more radioactive than Chernobyl. The fool has already contaminated the entire party.

Akin can still get off the ballot, but he can’t be replaced. . . .

Yes, he can be replaced on the ballot. He can withdraw, with a court order, by September 25. Then the state Republican committee would name a replacement.

“but he can’t be replaced”???? That is just flat out wrong. The state law allows the republican State Committee to nominate and place on the ballot a replacement.

Give me a break. So Akin is going to cause Romney to lose the election? Is Akin responsible for the possible hurricane that might hit Tampa during the GOP convention? He was disinvited.

People need to get a grip. MO was always going to be a close state. And we still have a couple of months to go. Romney will have to make his case to the voters.

Aiken and his remarks, as well as support from a handfull of loony politicians - LIKE HUCKABEE - are TOXIC!!!!!

Aiken HAS TO GO!!!! GET HIM OUT of sight he’s a moron and people like Huckabee who support him have a mental problem.

The Presidency is not worth defending this loon. I hope FOX drops Huckabee - he’s an idiot.

The hurricane is God’s business, and He knows what He’s doing. Unlike Akin.

That’s assuming Akin doesn’t make another outrageous remark...as long as he is still running and on the ballot, the danger of that, as well as the previous comments being recycled to have new life, is a real danger. Even though it clearly looks like he will lose, as long as he is on the ballot, the Democrats have a narrative in other Senate races that there is a danger he could be in the Senate and that their own states would need an “advocate” to be there to stand up to his “extremism.” In fact this is the narrative being taken now by Elizabeth Warren in Mass. Brown appeared to be showing signs of getting the upperhand before Todd Akin changed the entire national campaign narrative.

I think Romney will still carry Missouri, no matter what happens with Akin. The greater problems are these: a) losing the Senate seat to McCaskill; b) losing a Senate majority as a result; and c) the radioactive fallout across the nation, giving ammo to the Dems’ “War on Women” crap, and possibly costing us other races.

Who would replace him on the ballot??? There are no viable alternatives.

Ann Wagner would be the best, imo. Then Kit Bond.

Hate to break it to you, but not only in Missouri, but elsewhere, most voters are that dumb.

Yes, too many are indeed that dumb; but others, particular suburban women, do NOT want to associate with a party that has such kooks in it. They just don't want to hear crap from Akin, and if voting Democratic makes it go away, then so be it.

Misguided, of course, but it is REALITY.

We are not going to change REALITY in 10 weeks.

By mid-september Akin is going to be a household word. Akin is the greatest gift that Obama and every senate Democratic candidate have going. The Akin fallout will not be contained to Missouri.

You guys don't get it do you? You are losing romney voters right here on FR because of your hatred and doing the same things the libs do. WE MUST THINK LIKE YOU DO AND DO WHAT YOU THINK WE SHOULD DO. Their is no room for any other options than yours. Many people here think they know who Akins is, but are painting him the way they want people to see him. Calling him names, saying he's not patriotic (even though he has two sons serving in the military right now) saying they KNOW he can't win, attacking his faith and anyone who says to back off of him. Well its the RNC and the talking points they sent out on what to say about him that is crushing his numbers more than anything. Why won't the RNC attack Obama or anyone on the left as hatefully and forcefully as they have Akins? Because Akins is a Conservative, pro-life Christian and Romney is not. The gop is tired of fighting social issues and are moving left and the pushing of Romney in the primary is the proof. It is the gop and the Akins haters that are driving social conservatives out. Some people have no mercy for people who want to walk their faith. I hear people here say don't attack romney’s faith, but apparently it is open season on Christians, just like what we get from the left. Many people eyes are being opened to the fact that it's not just liberals who are hateful, it's in our party too.

I worked as a counselor at a Crisis Pregnancy Center for years. I volunteered to work many campaigns and sent money to various candidates and the RNC, RNCC,....I walked door to door with petitions and for candidates and causes. I now see it was for nothing. The RNC has decided they want the independents more than they want the people who worked to build up this party.

The more everyone trashes Akins, the more you will see people like me walk away from the party. Christians not welcome, correction, Christians who actually walk their faith not welcome. With the push of Romney who we know know lied again; He is not 100% pro-life like he said, he is ok with abortions for innocent babies because their bio sperm donor was a criminal and now he says gays should be allowed to adopt. A lot of people would not have voted for him had they know this during the primary. Holding his feet to the fire was just words, no one is calling for him to be what he promised to be in the primary. The worse part is yet to come if he wins. He and his campaign has made it clear by the things they have said about Christians that we are not welcome guests. (mormons are so nice you know)

The party is taking a hard left. Their is no reason to do this. Over 50% of voters are pro-life and 42% pro-abortion. Only 25% believe strongly in abortion. We could have turned this Akins issue around and reminded people about the lefts actual crimes; Clintons actual rape, Weiner on Youtube, Kennedy letting a women die,..... We could have compared making one statement to a person who thinks abortions up to 9 month and even infanticide is ok, but instead they hate this man more than they hate the left.

I have never seen worse things said by the left, then what many on the right have said about this man. I hope romney doesn't make anymore dumb mistakes or you might have to dump him too. That's right, only Christian conservatives get this treatment. Many will not follow this parties march to the left. Some here say Akins and his supporters are giving Obama the win. NO, every hateful word you say about him, about us Christians and our right to have an opinion different then yours is pushing us away from Romney. Are you sure some of you don't work the Obama campaign, because your doing a good job of knocking off potential Romney voters. The gop deserves credit for most of this though. They want the party to be more like the democrats socially than they want to be like Reagan.

MO was always going to be a close state. And we still have a couple of months to go. Romney will have to make his case to the voters.

Romney was up by an average of 7 points in RCP. It was considered a Lock Red state (Senate and Romney) by every polling website (Cook, RCP, Rove, Pollster, etc). Now the Senate seat has gone "Lean Democrat" and Romney is down 1 against a despised Obama. This is a very big deal. Romney loses Missouri. He can't win election.
