I am a man. But I get the impression that Akin’s remarks about “legitimate rape” cut very deep to the core of the fear every woman takes with her every day she leaves her house. And abortion is peripheral to the issue.

Basically accusing women of lying about rape is one thing, but to basically claim they weren’t raped because they produced a child as a result of the sexual intercourse is something even my own mother would not countenance and she was a pretty tolerant women.

The attitude of a lot of women when they heard Akin’s comment: Screw you! You’re not getting my vote. You’re meaning the GOP.

The Republicans need to ignore the media's concentration on Akin. When asked, they should just say that the more important issue is how Obama has ruined America's economy, so let's concentrate on that. If pushed, they can say Akin's comments were one man's opinion based on the opinions of some medical professionals.

If EVERY Republican answers like that, the Akin issue will be largely minimized.

I leave the house every day and never once think that I’m going to be raped. I seriously doubt my friends do either.

He can't win is a self-fulfilling prophesy if you continue to attack him, cut off his funding, and run around like Chicken Little crying that the sky is falling.

The MSM has once again shown its power to influence GOP behavior. Every Rep candidate will have to walk on eggshells for fear of making a politically incorrect or stupid statement, especially if it involves women, race, gays, or ethnicity. Self-censorship is the worst censorship of all. The GOP reaction to Akin just reinforces the MSM's control over the GOP. Akin will not be the last Rep sacrificed to the MSM and the Dems. And he certainly wasn't the first. In the meantime, the Dems can say and do anything they want without consequence. Sometimes it is better to stand up to a bully, rather than cower and give him your lunch money.

Akin was toxic even before his gaffe.

How so? Too conservative? Akin has won every race he has entered in 24 years of elective office.

So you do work for the Obama campaign. Let's see; Akins is toxic, but the RNC talking points had nothing to do with that. He is tarring others. You don't think the RNC’s hateful minions had anything to do with making this whole thing loud and the monster it has become? Sane empatic no exception types? What? I am blabbering incoherently? So trying to explain what I think is blabbering incoherently, but your words are wise — are you a professor at some liberal arts university who thinks you are better than others? It sounds like you think you are above us all, looking down at us peons who are not as wise as you. And what the hell is a magic uterus? So Akins will kill the party like Jim Jones did? Yesterday I watched 3 people who use to tell people to vote for the lessor of two evils and we can hold his feet to the fire if he goes back to the liberal he was, say they've had enough and will not be voting for romney. Is being hateful to people more important than debating like two grown ups? Is name calling, making assumptions, intimidating people worth losing romney votes to you?

And what is

25% are no exceptions, the other 25 are with some exceptions ???

Are you talking about the surveys that say 75% of people think it's ok to kill and innocent baby because their father was a rapist & 25% think it wrong? I don't care much about what other people think. If we live by the standards of the world, in a few years people might be able to have sex with children. Many on the left thinks so. After they get gay marriage, why stop there. They have constituents who want it. So it will be the GLBTQUP. Do you think killing innocent babies because their father was a criminal is ok?

Big difference between winning a House race in a congressional district, and a State-Wide race for Senator.

Do you think Ron Paul would win a Senatorial seat here in Texas?

If he can’t win, then pick a replacement who can and name him or her.

Let me get this straight, you said “here in WI” which means you LIVE in WI?

I live in TX, and if I know that WI went overwhelmingly for Obama and has comfortably gone for Dem presidential candidates 6 times in succession, and if I know that Ryan’s own district is majority Dem and IT went widely for Obama while re-electing Ryan, then what’s the reason for your misunderstanding of WI?

Because clearly you misunderstand it.

Before Romney picked Ryan, Obama was going to win WI, maybe by less than last time, but going to win it.

When Scott Walker survived recall, the GOP began to say that WI had become closer, more competitive for 2012, but none of them stated that Obama was anything but clearly in the lead.

To pull even with Obama in WI is so huge, I literally sputter for words and I’m not usually at a loss for them, to respond to your misunderstanding of that state’s political situation.

It is flat false that Ryan should have WI outside the margin of error for Romney. Everyone who knows reality there knows it will be tough slogging to win there, even with Ryan. Before Ryan, it was barely, barely in play at all.

To be even there, is nirvana.

I’ve seen enough of your posts to know you never admit anything by your FReeper opposition.

You come back for more, repeat, rinse, repeat, rinse and on and on, ad nauseum.

Fine.

People can judge for themselves who has the WI goods.

If Akin stays in, I want you to watch the Democrat Convention, because now it will be “The Party of Akin’s War on Women Show.” Then after that watch the polls nationally (not just in Missouri) and tell me how they are trending.

I think Romney will still carry Missouri, no matter what happens with Akin

Unlikely. Todd Akin has done more to bolster the DNC in one flaming stupid moment than Obama or Biden has been able to do for themselves in the last month and as long as he's in he will continue to do so.

I think McCain only won by 4000 votes (maybe 6000). Not sure of that number.

It's almost time to write off Missouri for not only the Senate seat but for the White House.

We can still hope for the best but we need to find a replacement state. I think it may be over for Missouri (as long as Akin stays in).

The longer he stays in the more irreversible damage he does even if he were replaced.

He should have been out days ago.

It's unfortunate but I live in RealVille.

Ann Wagner would work but her hands are full. . . .

At the moment and for the next week or so. But as long as she's ready to go by the time Akin has withdrawn and a replacement is named--mid-September, say--she could handle it.

Prayers for Ann. Sarah Steelman is pro-life and Sarah Palin will be there to energize MO voters for her. I have suggested that Akin make a deal with the 68-member Republican Central Committee that he withdraw if he gets to name a pro-life successor who has a chance to win. That is the best solution here.
