Debbie Wasserman Schultz and CNNs Anderson Cooper engaged in a heated exchange Thursday night when Cooper charged that the Florida congresswoman misquoted the Los Angeles Times in a letter that the anchor also said misrepresented Mitt Romneys stance on the Republican Partys abortion platform plank.
The segment, which has gone viral in the conservative blogosphere, features Cooper, on his CNN show Anderson Cooper 360, pointing to a fundraising email Wasserman Schultz signed. He said that a quote she used from the Los Angeles Times in the appeal was taken completely out of context.
The DNC chairwoman calls out Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan for saying they dont entirely agree with that plank, Cooper said. And heres how she backs it up But guess what? The Los Angeles Times reported yesterday that the platform was, and I quote, written at the direction of Romneys campaign.
But Cooper said the quote was ripped, in fact, out of a sentence, saying that the real piece read, Delegates for presumptive nominee Mitt Romney are voting down substantive changes to the platform language that were written at the direction of Romneys campaign.
Do you at least acknowledge that the quote that you gave from The L.A. Times is completely incorrect? Cooper asked, after a back-and-forth over Romneys record on allowing for abortions in certain instances, like rape.
No, I dont acknowledge that. I know that is what youre saying, Wasserman Schultz shot back. When he started to read the quote, she interrupted, Anderson, what Im saying is, it doesnt matter.
I think what you say does matter, he said. Youre quoting the LA Times and, again, youve misquoted them to back up a position.
Wasserman Schultz said that the point of the fundraising email was to highlight Romneys connection to his partys platform ban on abortion, which doesnt specifically designate exceptions for victims of rape or incest.
Theres no way a presidential candidate can separate himself from that partys platform, she said.
Cooper challenged her assertion there, too, but the most fiery moments of the segment centered on the question of the quote from the Los Angeles Times.
Just as you dont like being misquoted, I dont like being misquoted, Im sure the LA Times doesnt like being misquoted to back up your political position, Cooper said. I dont understand why youd need to do that.
I’d give it to Washerwoman-Schlitz on 2 of 3 falls...
I never thought I would say this, but this hack is more disgusting than Pelosi. She rabidly defends her lies and has the audacity to sit there and smile. She is evil.
Good for Anderson on this one.
CNN Should give her a show.
They can call it “The Wasserman Test”
CNN performing random acts of journalism. It’s encouraging but it’s too little too late for them.
Credit where due! Random acts of journalism continue to happen...
Is Cooper saying it’s not OK to lie about Republicans or it’s not OK to lie about what a newspaper says? Or both? Very strange for CNN to care about lying about Republicans...
Debbie Blabbermouth IS a venereal disease.
It’s close, but yeah I’d have to agree, DWS is the most dispicable woman in politics today.
EWW, Bad Seventy's Porn Title!
CAT FIGHT!........
I wonder if these liberal media hacks are finally realizing how much fun it is to rip into these stupid Dem politicians. Especially dopey Debbie.
Her hair looks like she washes it with water and pork lard....
I don’t think that’s kosher.
With that replacement reporter being caught using printouts from leftwing blogs on air to make her points I guess they are trying to have a few token moments they can point to as evidence they are not biased when they are charged with the same.
I love it when Democrats lose hope and start to eat their own young like this... it smells like VICTORY!
Thanks for posting the article.
“Anderson, what Im saying is, it doesnt matter..... IF I LIED. I’m a Democrat. “
