First, Representative Wasserman-Schultz; now Rep. Kilroy. Anyone see a pattern? Not just condemn the GOP as being ruled by Rush, as being composed of people who "do as they are told" (in Obama's words), as being stupid "tea-baggers," as being racist and anti-Semitic, as being murders on par with the Nazis (Congressman Grayson), terrorists (thanks to Janet Napolitano) but now they are the party of sexists. I thought the ascent of Barack Obama was supposed to bring about a new era of bipartisanship ("there is no red America, there is no blue America"-blah, blah, blah). The level of incivility has...

A House Democrat leader said Monday she's “confident” controversial language on abortion will be stripped from a final healthcare bill. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), the Democrats’ chief deputy whip in the House, said that she and other pro-abortion rights lawmakers would work to strip the amendment included in the House health bill that bars federal funding from going to subsidize abortions. “I am confident that when it comes back from the conference committee that that language won't be there,” Wasserman Schultz said during an appearance on MSNBC. “And I think we're all going to be working very hard, particularly...

Meredith Shiner and I write today on the GOP's persistent trouble recruiting, retaining and attracting women, particularly in the House. The exception seems to be among hard core conservatives, with Reps. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and Virginia Foxx (R-NC), emerging as populist folk heroes on the right. But that doesn't necessarily make them appealing to independent and moderate women, says Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), herself a rising star among a larger class of Democratic women. Asked about Foxx and Bachmann, Wasserman Schultz, blasted away: “This is a party that doesn’t respect women, a party that doesn’t believe women are equal to...

A top House Democrat said Monday she's "confident" that a conference committee will strip language in the House health bill on taxpayer funding for abortion. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), the Democrats' chief deputy whip in the House, said that she and other pro-choice lawmakers would work to strip the amendment included in the House health bill that bars federal funding from going to subsidize abortions. "I am confident that when it comes back from the conference committee that that language won't be there," Wasserman Schultz said during an appearance on MSNBC. "And I think we're all going to be...

You are invited to join me and Nancy-Ann DeParle, counselor to President Obama and director of the White House Office of Health Reform, for my telephone town hall meeting occurring this Sunday, August 30, 2009 from 7-8 p.m. This is my second of five telephone town hall meetings this year. We will be discussing health insurance reform that combines the quality Americans need with the choice and competition we want. This is your opportunity to ask me questions regarding this issue. To participate in my Telephone Town Hall Meeting, I need to have your phone number, so please fill out...

U.S. Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz will be on crutches for the next couple of weeks after fracturing her right leg and spraining her ankle during a charity softball game in Washington DC Tuesday night.

Rep Wasserman-Schultz who is shockingly a democrat and is also from Florida has stated that military members who are attacked because they served overseas are not real victims. She is to be removed in the next election. I am not authorizing her continued employment by the people of the United States. You do not have the right to vote for her. See the video of yet another act of treason by yet another democrat.

It is called Hardball, but never before on the MSNBC show or elsewhere have I seen a member of Congress pull this kind of stunt on a colleague. Even Chris Matthews was surprised by the nasty tactic . . . Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-Fl.) and Brian Bilbray (R-Calif.) appeared on this afternoon’s Hardball to debate the just-concluded House vote on the stimulus. Like all Republicans, Bilbray voted against it. Presumably trying to hit Bilbray where it really hurts, at one point Wasserman-Schultz cited the supposed number of new jobs that Bilbray voted against . . . in his own district....

(CBS) When asked to characterize Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's qualifications to be the Republican vice presidential nominee, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., stated flatly that Palin isn’t ready to be vice president. "She doesn't know anything," Wasserman Schultz said on CBS' Face The Nation, responding to a charge by a fellow guest, former Mass. Gov. Jane Swift, that Palin has been forced to undergo scrutiny in the media that some would characterize as sexist. "There shouldn't be a double standard," Swift said. "We shouldn't ask of her questions about her ability to do the job that we wouldn't ask a...

There are several proposals being discussed in Washington and Tallahassee that would expand the areas on which oil companies could drill off of the coast of Florida. I support a moratorium against the expansion of offshore drilling and have written a column on this topic, a version of which ran last month in the Sun-Sentinel. That said, I am interested to know what you think about this topic, especially now that energy prices are increasing. Thank you for taking a moment to read this and for letting me know your opinion on this important issue.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) said that the House Judiciary Committee would be willing to arrest Karl Rove if the former White House official doesn't testify about his role in the firing of nine U.S. attorneys in 2006. Wasserman Schultz, in an interview on MSNBC Tuesday, echoed the demand of House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.) that Rove would not be allowed to invoke executive privilege to avoid testifying. Rove could not invoke the privilege since he said he did not have conversations with the president about the attorneys' firing, Wasserman Schultz said. Asked by MSNBC host Dan Abrams...

ORLANDO, Fla. _Rep. Katherine Harris said this week that God did not intend for the United States to be a "nation of secular laws" and that a failure to elect Christians to political office will allow lawmaking bodies to "legislate sin." The remarks, published in the weekly journal of the Florida Baptist State Convention, unleashed a torrent of criticism from political and religious officials. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., said she was "disgusted" by the comments "and deeply disappointed in Rep. Harris personally." Harris, Wasserman Schultz said, "clearly shows that she does not deserve to be a Representative . ....

In a history-making moment, President George W. Bush is expected next week to proclaim May of every year as Jewish American Heritage Month. The proclamation will be the culmination of months of work by U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., who pushed resolutions through the House and Senate that urged Bush to take action. That’s no small feat for a first-term Demo-crat. Now it’s up to school districts, museums and community groups to make the symbolic designation meaningful. Wasserman Schultz wants these institutions to raise awareness about Jewish contributions to American life, as they have done with Black History Month...

Too little, too slowly. That's what Broward County leaders and storm-weary victims say about the federal emergency response to Hurricane Wilma. People whose homes have been destroyed are being herded from temporary shelter to temporary shelter. Longer-term housing has not yet been identified. Federal centers where people can apply for relief will not be set up until this weekend.
