Akin demonstrated that he was incapable of giving coherent support to the pro-life position. Accordingly, why would anybody want him representing the pro-life position?

If we threw out every politician who made one gaffe, who would be left? Only politicians who "enjoy being able to fire people" and "aren't concerned about the very poor?" This rush to judgment against Akin is despicable, cowardly, irrational, mean-spirited and counter-productive.

My conservatism is primarily in regards to fiscal issues and defense. I;m more of a libertarian on social issues.

I would think anyone with a brain would see that this election was about jobs and the economy.

Not abortion. Now abortion’s out there front and cent5er. Of course the socons love this because it makes them feel relevant again.

They need to be team players and learn how to take one for the team.

Making rape through a completely idiotic statement a nationalized political sledgehammer for the rest of the race isn’t his fault?

He most certainly deserves the treatment he’s getting.

“Link to the credible research that supports Akin’s comment about the ability to ‘shut that whole thing down’?”

Here’s a snippet from another conversation I was in:

As for research supporting (stress-induced) cortisol-based interference with human pregnancy, some German scientists are indeed studying the matter:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18616898

One of the above scientists has also performed research with mice that tends to corroborate the premise that miscarriage can be triggered by the chemistry of stress:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-325674/Stress-really-cause-miscarriages.html

I have heard there is also a related study in the Journal of Endocrinology by Tufts University, June 2003, but I have yet to track down a good link for that.

BTW, I just saw him saying he got the science wrong. Too bad. Years from now, when things have calmed down (for better or worse), some enterprising young lawyer will use the existing research to get a big settlement for a stress-induced miscarrige. Mark my words.

If that’s what it takes to get him out and get us the senate, so be it.

“Please explain how having a toxic candidate which is affecting polling and is being used against candidates across the country is helpful to the conservative movement.”

~ ~ ~

Oh, promoting, believing the exceptions to abortion are not
toxic or against God? Promoting the sodomite agenda is
not toxic either, it’s not an abomination?

Denying Jesus is 2nd person of the Holy Trinity, always
was, always will be is not toxic to your soul?

Providing abortion in RomneyCare is not evil or toxic to
your soul?

Romney’s record....Jesus mercy.

Watching the KCTV5 stream.

Staff are putting up Akin banners, so it would seem that he is staying in.

Please explain how having a toxic candidate which is affecting polling and is being used against candidates across the country is helpful to the conservative movement.

The biggest effect on anyone else's polling is Republicans abandoning Romney in MO because of him participating in screwing over the candidate they nominated.

Anything can and will be "used against" Republican candidates. And Akin's gaffe will be used whether or not he stays in or drops out. It's not a substantive gaffe, just a misstatement. He didn't come out for a specific policy that goes against the platform so there's no substantive effect it can have on other candidates. There are tons of easy answers they can give if that comes up such as, "I don't agree with what he said." Not exactly a liberal strategy that can get a lot of traction.

Nope I want conservatives to. We have had way more than our share of RINOs. Next year I really don’t want to hear the complaining that will take place from everyone here when Romney does something liberal...which he will. It is going to be hard to see it happen and not say told you so but I will try not to do that.

GREAT point !
...look at Boehner, and our REPUBLICAN majority in the house, sitting there, doing NOTHING, while Obama “legalizes” illegals. ...they also quietly gave Obama MORE money, after he spend all the money Boehner gave him last time, instead of “holding the line”.
-
but, we are told, we “must” do this, so we can win.
we must sacrifice our principles to win?!?
the liberals are laughing their asses off,
at the GOP-e, doing the dirty work for them !

But the uniformity of Republican and conservative sentiment to replace Akin on the ballot has removed every plausible reason for his resistance save one: pride.

Didn't Coulter write a book about how liberals are led around by the mob mentality? Guess it's not just liberals. And Huckabee, Mike Gallagher and Steve Deace are backing Akin so it's not "uniform."

Not his voting record. Still not steping aside is one of the most dishonorable things I have ever seen from a candidate who has put himself above the good the country.

Akin.... do the right thing and allow another conservative GOP candidatge to run in your place.

Listen, Jedi. I have been fighting for Sarah Palin in the face of 3 years of a media and RINO smear campaign. So I understand your frustration.

However, with Palin, I was confident that she, if given the chance (beyond the bias), could speak directly to the American people and articulate an effective message. She’s a star.

Todd Akin is not that guy. He is not worth losing the country for. This election is too important.

Just take one and write MLNA on the envelope and drop it in any mailbox.

It’ll go back to the sender and most likely get your address deleted from their database.

Great way to avoid collection agencies, too.....

If you hadn't noticed, the whole FR site backed Newt.

You can make the election "about" whatever you want it to be about in your own mind but that doesn't make it true. You're revealing your bias. You're not upset with Akin because of a gaffe, but because he is bringing up the topic of abortion.

Our politicians aren't doing enough to end abortion. Every election should be at least in part about making the case for the pro-life and pro-marriage causes. They're also winning issues according to the polls. You need to understand that and take one for the team.
