This stunt with the press conference -just when we were hoping the press might get tired of it - confirms the fact that he is just a self-obsessed pathological jerk.

Without socons we’d have a free and libertarian society where ADULTS could THINK FOR THEMSELVES, and not be such busybodies to worry about what someone else is doing in their bedrooms, or what they watch on TV, or anything else they do.

The Founding Fathers would disagree with you. Madison had nothing but contempt for the religious fundamentalists and evangelicals of his day.....and he was a deeply religious man himself.

He saw them as I do. Yeehaws and hayseeds.

PS I pray to God and LOOK TO THE MARKET FOR ANSWERS.

I cannot make money under 0bama. You moralistic theocrats are risking a loss of the senate by backing this guy just because of ONE SINGLE ISSUE!!!!!

I won’t let you, or anyone else and their “principles” or their “purism” cost me another dime, and anyone who risks a complete GOP takeover of congress as well as the White House is the ENEMY to me.

Sorry, pal....its business, not personal. Get over it, brainwashed socon.

No, you’re overplaying your hand. The fact is, serious scientists are asking this question. It is not irrational to believe that the human body under stress is chemically different in ways that might affect miscarriage. We aren’t going for certainty here. Only reasonable plausibility.

BTW, you are not addressing the stress of rape very realistically if you think of it as a one time trauma. Many women after rape develop PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder. I have personal knowledge of such, and I can tell you, that single event can become an ongoing source of elevated stress that can last for years. Couple that with the rational guilt of killing an innocent child under pressure from your family, and you have no idea how bad that is for the soul and the body. Trust me, you don’t want to go there.

As for how Akin “formulated it,” I heard the original tape and I read the words and honestly I can’t imagine where people got the idea he was blaming the woman. Pure projection. Nothing he said would compel such an interpretation. But I do have severely lib inlaws who have such rigid stereotypes of prolife people, that they would gladly believe that’s what he meant, even if it clearly wasn’t what he said.

But it is fair to ask why he raised the issue at all. My belief is that he was, in all sincerity, proposing that because pregnancies from rape are relatively rare, the law should not focus on exceptions, but on the main case, which is that it is always wrong to kill an innocent child for the misdeeds of one parent. Legislation that revolves around exceptions is typically bad law with so many loopholes it becomes unenforceable for those who know how to game the system. Cf. US Tax Code. The life of the child is the main thing, not the rare exceptions.

As for the studies you reference (links would be nice), I have seen discussion in other threads that raise doubts about those numbers you were using. I think it remains an open question, open enough at least that I am willing to listen to all thoughtfully presented views. I am in no hurry to rush to judgment.

Peace,

SR

And you are obviously correct. There isn't a single other reasonable and realistic interpretation of his remarks than that. His phrasing was awkward and clumsy of course, but anyone who stops and seriously listens to what he said AND GIVES HIM THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT, can see clearly what he was saying. And that is why the piling on him from his own party has been disgraceful and inexcusable.

It takes gazillion s of dollars to run a senatorial campaign and win.

Where’s Akin going to get that kind money? He’s been shut off and is now reduced to begging the church ladies for their social security checks.

Who’s gonna finance your crack-pipe dream?

Certainly not Mr. and Mrs. Evangelical Missouri Farmer.

He may get a few hundred thousand bucks, but that won’t pay for one ad.

The party bosses need to throw a little muscle around.....like back in the old days....if you catch my drift.

Akin needs to be told to play ball or else...”we know where your kids go to school”{....etc....

On this one he’s right.

This election is about jobs and the economy. Joe Schmoe doesn’t care about your precious social issues.

He cares about keeping afloat financially and job security.

The sooner you socons get this the better off.

(You’ve been irrelevant since 1980)

Sounds like anarchy and chaos to me. An "anything goes" society equates to a hellish imprisonment on earth that has impacts on other people who would prefer to remain free. You can't legalize abortion without also legalizing murder, rape, theft, etc., because each act involves harming another person. Likewise, people have the freedom to NOT offer government benefits to people for being a same-sex couple if they don't want to and to not have their children educated that being a same-sex couple is just as legitimate as being a heterosexual couple. Not sure what else you're referring to, but all I would want on TV content, etc., is proper labeling of the content and filtering options for families so their freedom to avoid it is preserved.

I cannot make money under 0bama. You moralistic theocrats are risking a loss of the senate by backing this guy just because of ONE SINGLE ISSUE!!!!!

Wrong. The party is 100 times more responsible for risking a loss by not giving him funding. Without funding, he has NO chance. With it, he has a chance to win in a red, conservative state. There is nothing anyone can do to force Akin from the race, so we have to support him now or risk a loss. I would support his replacement candidate as well. I want to win the seat. The RINOs said we had to coalesce around Romney whether we liked it or not to defeat Obama. We had to vote ABO. So isn't it time to do the same with Akin? ABM?

anyone who risks a complete GOP takeover of congress as well as the White House is the ENEMY to me.

Then Romney and the RNC are your enemy until funding is restored.

At least we know now what kind of morality and protection of human rights exists under the libertarian utopia. Might makes right, apparently.

I hate zealots and socons and I wish they’d just disappear.

They’re an embarrassment to reason and rationality in the party.

Just like Akin is an embarrassment to humanity.

Then prepare to lose. 8% unemployment means the vast majority of the country are employed. The fact that Romney's trying to run solely on the economy helps show why he's losing in the polls now. A lot of people are doing just fine right now, including myself. If all I cared about was being afloat financially and my job, I'd vote for Obama. I'm making a lot more money than I was 4 years ago. Luckily for you the Republicans have my vote because I'm disgusted at Obamacare, its abortion funding, Obama forcing churches to pay for birth control against their conscience, as well as the outrageous waste of money being paid to finance the debt.
