Mitt Romney asserts control over 2016 calendar
Politico ^ | Saturday August 25, 2012

If Romney wins in November, another significant change passed here Friday give him dramatically more power to shape the primary calendar and apportionment of delegates going into 2016. Historically only the convention rules committee, which meets just once every four years, can officially change party rules. But going forward, the Republican National Committee — a group of 168 elected representatives from the states and territories — can change party rules with a three-fourths vote.

But Ginsberg isn’t waiting to push rules through that national committee. He introduced and passed a measure Thursday that requires a candidate to control eight state delegations in order to be formally nominated on the floor of a convention, upping the threshold from five. Paul comes to Tampa with three, meaning he will not get a chance to speak on the floor.

Conservatives cried foul and Paul acolytes felt railroaded, but a day of heated speeches couldn’t hold off the pro-Romney maneuvers.

“It’s definitely a power grab by the campaign, the committee,” said Drew McKissick, South Carolina’s representative on the rules committee. “It’s bad juju. Once you let the genie out of the bottle, they can do anything.”

“This really is truly groundbreaking,” he added. “We are telling all the states how they have to pick their delegates.”

First of all, let me just say that I’m voting for Romney (Ryan actually) because ABO.

It’s time for a viable third party. The Tea Partiers will be watching closely. If they are backstabbed by a Romney administration, I believe they will cease to work within the Repblican party and they will put up their own candidate. Four years gives them enough time to get organized.

My opinion is that if Romney governs as a conservative, he will maintain support and maybe even pick up more. Re-election should be no problem in 2016.

If he turns left, his support will immediately evaporate. He will not pick up any from the left and he will lose support from the right. No amount of maneuvering and tinkering with the rules will help. In fact, it will hurt him. People are tired of loopholes and maneuvering and tinkering and anything that smacks of “lawyering.”

America is watching. The era of shady deals done in smoky rooms by the so-called elite is not yet gone, but it’s going. Media mind control - same story. We have the internet (thanks, Al) and more importantly, we are paying attention. More people are thinking for themselves, too, not just jumping on the bandwagon that the college professor or high school social studies teacher tells them to get on.

FR is a wonderful resource! For every one who posts here, there are even more who lurk. And for every one of them, there are the dozens of friends and family members with whom they share what they learn here.

Thanks for the ping, Dear Onyx!

So the Mittster has already consolidated his resources so that nothing from Conservatives can touch him as he makes his expected swing to the Left.

I don't think even Sarah Palin can shame him enough to make him do the Right thing once he gets this much power. He's like every other greedy politician. He's been cynically using the GOP's "Fear and Loathing of Obama" to get himself elected. Now he's made sure that the states have to choose their delegates according to his wishes.

This Centralize Power Grab is SO transparent, it's sickening.

I predict that all the Conservatives here who are backing Romney -- for whatever reason -- are going to be mighty unhappy.

Ah, well, we can work for SARAH PALIN IN 2016!!

And I am making a big bumper sticker that says, "DON'T BLAME ME - I VOTED FOR SARAH!"

> Anyone who thinks conservatives will “hold Romney’s feet to the fire” if he wins election is dreaming. And we’ve told you this. And told you this. And told you this.

Yep.

There is not gonna be any effective "holding anything to the fire". It's just excuses for casting a "fear vote".

Have you read history, about how dictators come into power? Among other things, they:

-- Create fear of an opponent or enemy, that makes people do what they say to beat the opponent they are taught to fear.

-- Make a bunch of lying promises they have no intention of keeping.

-- Consolidate power so that no one can tell them what to do ("feet to the fire".... yeah, right).

-- Take away the people's rights that could threaten their grip on power. That's liberty first, then guns, then votes.

Myth Romney has already done the first three. Just wait a little while, the last one is on its way.

I'll cut off my hand before I vote for that SOB.

Just so you understand, Obama is worse. Substantially worse.

That doesn't make Romney good. Lesser evil is still evil, and he makes the false claim to be on our side. He's traitorous to the principles we hold dear. We're screwed either way.

Excellent, astute and correct. I’ve never in my life seen so much interest in the Founding Fathers, our Constitution or economics. People are tired of being lied to and manipulated. The one thing to remember is that the elites aren’t going to go quietly. They will work hard to keep their perks and privileges and if they cannot beat us, they’ll join us. That’s the thing to watch for.

Great piece, thanks for sharing. I’ve been using this for years, but never knew its name or that it was formally studied.

Unfortunately, I believe you’re calling it wrong. We’re using it against them. When we started home schooling our kids friends and family thought we were nuts. I don’t meet a person today who doesn’t say either “good for you” or “wish I had/could do that for my kids”.

Look at the 2nd Amendment, abortion and even homosexual marriage. We’re winning. They have the courts and the kakocracy on their side, but that’s it. Now is the time to press homosexuality back to its proper place as a psychological illness. The science shows that it is. Gen Y is ripe for conservative change.

Its pretty obvious that my "republican" governor doesn't expect Obamacare to be overturned. He's going full steam ahead for it.

Gov. Snyder's Obamacare 'Partnership' Misguided

If anybody has an inside track on Romney, its Rick Snyder.

Sure we’re moving ahead on many fronts but the party is clearly moving away on just as many fronts.

They can wave the anti abortion banner all they want but the simple fact is that they’re trying to crush a firm pro life candidate in Missouri while embracing Scott Brown’s pro abortion announcement.

If the Overton Window works, and I believe it does, then we're winning and the number of options the GOP-e have is shrinking as well. We need a longer time horizon and the recognition that on many fronts we're moving in the right direction. There will be resistance. The elites throughout history rarely release power willingly or easily. It needs to be metaphorically torn out.
