The NYPD Explains Why Their Bullets Wounded Nine People Yesterday (It's not their fault)
The Atlantic ^ | August 25, 2012 | Connor Simpson

It's official. The New York Police Department have admitted that all nine people wounded yesterday in the Empire State Building shootout were from bullets they fired at Jeffrey Johnson.

CNN's David Ariosto reports the NYPD said the two officers that confronted Johnson fired a total of 16 shots. "One officer shot nine while another one shot seven," they said. Police commissioner Ray Kelly explained the injured bystanders were hit by ricocheting bullets. The shots hit "flowerpots and other objects around, so ... their bullets fragmented and, in essence, that's what caused the wounds."

The next question the NYPD will have to answer is why the two officers needed to fire 16 bullets to take down one man who, as we can see in the video, was only a few feet away from them.

The two officers managed not to wound hundreds within range of their weapons and afterall, they did get their man.AND, they didn't shoot each other in the process...Perhaps they should be armed with claymore mines instead of pistols...

You sir, are a bonehead. You don’t know d!ck about what anyone here has done, but your typical cop attitude, like so many snot-nosed teenagers, is that we “just don’t understand.”

The absolute LAST person in this entire country, that should be pontificating on the skills and practice of shooting a firearm, is someone from New York.

BTW, take out an eight hundred pound alligator with a .22, and then you can tell us about situations that would make you crap your pants.

Idiot.

Two or Three bystanders but Nine is a disaster

Nine? NINE?

Within the lethal range of a 9mm pistol (which I think is the NYPD duty weapon), at that hour, at that location, there were probably between 2500 and 25 000 "bystanders".

Like I said, tactically, a nightmare.

“Live shooter @ 34th and 5th is a nightmare tactical scenario for the defender(s), not sure how to run the scenario with a good outcome.”

Here is a simple answer:
1. Shootee is 8 feet away from the shooters.
2. Shooters have been trained to hit the bullseye of a standard Police “L” target. That is a five inch diameter black disk.
3. Shooters are on the streets in uniform and are “qualified” to carry and use their weapon. Supposedly, they can hit that 5 inch circle at 75 feet.
4. FIrearms trainers assume a 12 inch circle will cover vital organs in a center of mass body shot. Students are trained to place 2 rounds center of mass and then 1 round in the head if the shootee keeps on approaching or is otherwise a lethal threat.
5. Remember that the head of the shootee is larger than five inched in diameter (assuming he is not a Libtard).
6. Any qualified shooter should have been able to do body shot hits, if not head shots at 8 feet.

As the Libtards on National Palisimian Radio like to say, “Let’s do the numbers”. Shooters (NYPD Boyz-N-Blu) do not keep their bullets in the shootee’s body at a range of 8 feet!

Require all training to be done by an independent business, and use open bids to select the training company.

Trainers like Front Sight, and Profire, to use just two that I am familiar with, could easily provide qualified training and turn NYPD police into competent shooters, not merely “Deadly Donut Eaters”.

Matter of fact, a trainer at Profire can put all of his Glock magazine through the hole in a donut at 8 feet. His wife could easily center all of her shots in the hole.

NRA has it right - “Practice Does not make Perfect. Perfect Practice makes Perfect”.

As NYC will soon discover, training is cheaper than judgements.

Conclusion: NYPD has inadequate hand gun training.

Not a difficult task, by the way as my students can all do that and they are beginning shooters.
3. Said bullseye is

I’m with you.

Most people have watched too many TV and movie shootouts and don’t understand the reality of armed confrontation.

People do not get how crowded with pedestrians Manhattan is

What part of "missing your target" don't you understand?

No one here would be complaining if all the collateral damage was from over penetration.

Are hollow points still banned in NYC
If so then the ricochets and penetration wounds can be attributed to this PC BS law

“... two were left in the chamber...”

There must be a new .45 on the market.

There's a big difference between "don't understand" and "don't agree." Learn it.

I can help NYPD here:

“They were high-density, aerodynamically shaped projectiles, delivered at a high rate of speed.”

I sure hope they are able to wound people.

You’re assuming the first couple of shots hit the guy. I’d hate to see what the .45s would have done to all those innocent bystanders.

(Really?)

Yep, really.

In nearly all cities across the US, Chiefs of Police serve at the pleasure of the Mayor (and sometimes city council).

Leftist DemoRat politicians have discovered that they can promise a reduction in crime and when elected, they order the Chief to "reduce the crime statistics" or be fired and replaced with "someone who will". The message is clear, and the Chief controls the advancement and retention of all those officers under him. If crime stats don't go down, a lot more cops than the Chief will be losing their jobs or advancement.

I know this to be a fact from personal experience in San Francisco, another leftist city with a "falling" crime rate.

Thank you. Been trying to say this, from the video, several times to various tv amateur G-Men. The Bronx gave them a better reaction time and instincts.
