Tropical Storm Isaac forced Republicans on Sunday to rewrite the script for their national convention in Tampa, as party officials scrambled to make sure candidate Mitt Romney's message to voters would not be blown off course.
Isaac was expected to spare Tampa a direct hit and strike, with hurricane strength, farther north along the Gulf Coast this week.
But it has left Republicans who canceled most of their schedule for Monday in anticipation of the storm with a new challenge for the convention's remaining three days: Help Romney make an aggressive, memorable argument to be president, while being careful to show sensitivity to those at risk from the storm.

Romney, who will face Democratic President Barack Obama in the Nov. 6 election, is eager to use the nationally televised political extravaganza in Tampa to define himself to American voters after a series of campaign setbacks. But his efforts could be robbed of some media attention if the storm churning in the Gulf of Mexico dominates the news this week.
Convention organizers were still reworking the schedule late Sunday as Republican delegates converged on Tampa, where the party will formally nominate Romney and his vice presidential running mate, Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan, to face Obama and Vice President Joe Biden in November.
"It's a concern competing with a major weather event," Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell said Sunday on ABC's "This Week." Still, he said he expected independent voters in particular to tune in to hear Romney's speech Thursday night, and Ryan's the previous night.
"I think we'll still get a fair amount of attention," McDonnell said, "and the message will be good."

The media will try its best to make it so.
The MSM is sure to pump up any diversion so they do not have to cover the GOP convention. If the wind gets over 20 mph, they’ll have their ridiculous reporters leaning into the breeze with their slickers on. Never mind that people are driving 60mph, and old women are walking their Yorkies in the background of their shots.
The way this storm looks - there will be NOTHING except coverage of the damage during the convention.
...and I wouldn’t blame the media.

Other thing is it is nicely timed to give Obama days of televised sharing & caring in the affected area, then off to the last day of the Democratic convention.

I would, and will. The Lamestream media will be in high hurricane gear, 24/7. Anytime they can possibly interrupt coverage of the Pub convention, they will (with the exception, hopefully, of Fox). Plus Obama will take any opportunity to get his mug on TV, preferably in the middle of either Romney or Ryan’s speech, if he can time it right (I’m sure he’s plotting with Isaac to make it so). And if the hurricane lands in New Orleans, Obama and his henchmen will be on the news constantly. Oh joy, oh joy. Something to look forward to.

The media will make it so. Isaac could be a couple hundred miles out in the Gulf weakening to a summer shower, but the alphabets would be reporting from the center of the storm.
I’ve been looking at the storm for the past 2 hours. It is going to put Katrina/Rita to shame. They will have a real story - it’s just that the NHC is afraid to sound the alarm. I’m in Houston, and I’m buying gas tomorrow and will be packing up late in the day.
Ryan is scheduled to speak Wed. night. The cat 1 hurricane is scheduled to make landfall around NOLA on Tues. afternoon.

Isaac will be halfway across the Gulf and all Tampa will see is some wind and rain - like every other summer day.

Yes I agree. Headline on Drudge is that it could be another Katrina. This gives the MSM all the historical background needed to require them to cover it hitting LA area. (And they would be right to do so). They will cover both stories but Isaac may suck all the momentum from the convention.

Isaac become a Cat 1 in 40 minutes. But that doesn’t matter, it’s what happens when it’s over the Gulf and turns into a Cat 3 (minimum), and then hits land.
But I agree, even a hurricane worse than Katrina/Rita/Ike combined comes nowhere near the damage this president is doing to the country - but it is still a newsworthy event.
C-Spam is providing gavel to gavel coverage. This means no commercials, no cutaways to reporters leaning into the gale, no spin, and no pundits explaining in eye-glazing detail what we just saw and heard two minutes prior.

Isaac is heading for the Chocolate City of New Orleans...could potentially be another Katrina in intensity.
Loss of a day is a good excuse to cut out the McCain and Jeb speeches to save time.
