Maryland Man Sues Firing Range for 'Reverse Sexism'

One Monday last October, Derrick Hunter decided to go shooting at the Maryland Small Arms Range in Upper Marlboro, his local firing range. He paid the $15 entry fee, and went inside.

And that's when the metaphorical bullets started to fly.

According to Hunter, 34, a special police officer, two women walked in behind him. Since it was "Ladies' Day," a longtime staple at the club, a manager told them they didn't have to pay.

Hunter heard the exchange, and asked if he could use the range for free too. "He said, 'It's Ladies' Day and you don't meet that criteria,'" he told ABC News. He accuses the firing range of "reverse sexism."

"Any time you get any kind of discrimination it does hit home to a certain extent," he said. "I have children. If don't stand for something you'll fall for anything. Sooner or later you have to stand up for your rights."

Hunter complained to the Human Relations Commission of Prince George's County, which reviews cases of discrimination. In August, it concluded that the case had merit. Last week, Hunter filed a $200,000 lawsuit against the firing range.

This “special police officer” doesn’t meet the definition of a “woman”, but he sure meets my definition of a “pussy”. What a whiner.

We need to encourage women to take up armed self-defense, and “ladies’ day” is one way to do so.

News to this dude: Life isn't fair. If they can get more ladies in shooting...THEN GREAT. Charging them less didn't cost you more; you paid the standard fee.

This guy must be a Democrat. They think that whenever someone else pays more tax they themselves are somehow better off. This is kind of like that.

I agree with the man, when women want to be treated equal why not pay equal as the man. The range can have a half off day for all shooters to be fair to both.

That “special police officer” to me sounds like a “Holder’s people” lawyer shaking down businesses for lawsuits.

It seems pretty obvious Mr. Hunter looks for this type of thing so he can sue.

Remember when bars had Ladies night? They knew if they attracted ladies the ladies would attract men. This range knows thta if they give women a free day they become interested and will return on other days.

Hunter will probably win, but not $200,000 More like 4500 bucks IMO.Atleast that is what he would get if I were on the jury. I hate people who MAKE a living by suing folks trying to EARN a living.

This is what we get with a nanny state society full of hungry, pestilential lawyers.

Hunter, 34, a special police officer,

Yeah, he's "special" alright.

.
And the range fee probably went up from $15/person to $20/person.

I think it is their business and they should be able to run it as they see fit.

What does this have to do with "women wanting to be equal"?

This is private range that has decided of its own accord to make a particular offer. There's nothing illegal or unethical about that. In fact, they're smart -- they know if more women are at their range, more men are likely to show up, too.

It's not some kind of feminazi conspiracy. Sometimes a cigar really is just a cigar.

That or they could run a “man’s day” at the range. Think of how much sales they’d have during that day.

But a male only golf club is FORCED to accept female members in the name of EQUALITY. And in the name of EQUALITY females get to use a shooting range free while males must pay.

This is BS. Next he’ll be suing bars for having a ladies night.

Chicks don’t shoot as much as men, why can’t you have an advertisement to attract them? What if I had a barbershop and gave balding men half off? Would the full headed be discriminated against? Typical it’s in Merryland.

I’m surprised that any business would still have a “ladies day”—long a target of the feminazis, who have also seen to it that the term “lady” is disappearing from our vocabulary.

sounds like something out of canada.

how about “newbie shooters” day if it should be sexism free. if you’ve been shooting less than a year, you get a deal. this man is a well and truly pr*ck.

I’m sure the lady customers don’t make the rules. I’m pretty sure those women officers are being paid the same as their male counterparts because they all work for government agencies, which pay people based on years of experience and rank.
