Would you hire someone who has been arrested for DWI? There is a difference between making a bad decision and continuing to make bad decisions.
A past DWI without repeats would not bother me. Recent DWI or repeat DWI would give me a reason to keep looking for someone else. Criminal background checks are often (but not always) done.

My daughter in law had to take a drug test to work at Micro Center. Because she was on Ritalin, she had to produce pharmacy records to show she was taking legally prescribed drugs.
I'm sure which legally prescribed drugs an employer allows varies from employer to employer and position applied for.
