New Orleans and much of the Gulf Coast faced the anniversary of devastating Hurricane Katrina by hunkering down for new storm amid "a high level of anxiety," as the Crescent City's mayor put it Monday.
Forecasters project Tropical Storm Isaac will reach hurricane strength before hitting the northern Gulf Coast early Wednesday, seven years to the day after Katrina slammed ashore near the Louisiana-Mississippi state line. Residents of low-lying coastal areas from the Florida Panhandle to southeastern Louisiana were ordered to evacuate ahead of storm surges and heavy rain, while the mayor of New Orleans -- which was flooded by Katrina -- acknowledged "a high level of anxiety" due to the coincidence.

Any direct hit on New Orleans is serious because the city is under sea level. It’s not the winds it’s the rains. It’s the flooding. And this storm is moving slow.
Thanks Bubba_Leroy.
Cheney, Rove and Boooosh turned on the Weather Control Machine.

I’ve been pointing out here and elsewhere, since August 23 when everyone was expecting Isaac to hit the Republican Convention in Florida, in previous six years weather has disrupted Southern Decadence in New Orleans three times. Two of those times it was shut down completely due to hurricane weather. If Isaac hits there, it will be the fourth such instance in seven years.
I will add one tidbit I failed to mention earlier. If memory serves me, I think the 2005 Southern Decadence celebration was the first year New Orleans city council declared it to be an officially sponsored event, like Mardi Gras.
If America continues down the same path of normalizing this deviancy, the whole nation will experience similar devastation. In some ways, we already have.
I’m going to be 20 miles east of the Northeast eyewall. I’ve boarded up(only one in neighborhood who has) and say...bring on the convention!!! I will lose power but have a generator and will watch what I can. To suggest that it’s insensitive to hold the convention while we go through this is a joke!
Remember, Louisiana is a Red State and for the most part doesn’t whine about sensitivity and all that PC crap.
Hoping for a 7 point bounce with 4 of those being permanent.
I just remembered some preachers pointing to the Southern Decadence festival when Katrina hit. And got curious to see if it was this week and sure enough it is.
You'd think New Orleans would start connecting the dots if we can.
I also heard the media is hoping to split screen both events; the GOP Convention on one side and families swimming to safety on the other side.
I’ll bet the liberal media is praying for a CAT 4
Be safe!
Wow! You live in Lousiana?
Remember the Bobby Bare song “Marie Lavoe”?
I hope you realize that 85% of New Orleans does not know and never knows the weekend of Southern Decadence.
And now the update says the NE eyewall will pass within 5 miles of my house.

The media can pray for cat 4 all it wants cuz with all the dry air being drawn into the storm in the NE quadrant, it truly looks like the good Lord is sparing us! And I mean that sincerely.
Well Here’s praying you come through it okay.
You're right. The drought comes to mind.
So does the verse, "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
I believe there is a reason Muslim lands are mostly desert.
