Urgent Action Needed… RNC Is Pushing to Eliminate Grassroots Influence

Yesterday, Michael Duncan reported at Freedom Works on a brewing fight in the rules committee of the RNC. Essentially, the Rules Committee is trying to disenfranchise grassroots groups by allowing the party nominee to dismiss delegates and silence opposition. Buzz Feed explained this new rule:

That might be the outcome. In the short term their goal was to silence the Paulistinians who lied and portrayed themselves as supporting Romney (or others). It probably should be headed off. Letting them act like nutjobs might be the best thing to do... your opinion may vary.

Well, yes, of course, but it's not that simple, so it's no as well.

What you do when you tighten down from the top is you lose the bottom.

When you give everything over to the bottom the top just goes berserk.

At some point someone will decide there needs to be a parting of the ways. There are options.

BTW, there's something beyond the Republican party ~ there are the State parties ~ all called Republican, but governed under state laws. You can go start your own Republican party, with your own bylaws, and see if you can supplant the current moribund bunch represented by the GOP-e.

I’m still sifting thru this so I don’t have a hardened opinion yet, but having went thru the convention process here in Iowa up to the district level (had no desire to go to state after the crap I saw) there need to be some changes made. What we had was a wholesale takeover of the Paulshiveks to get all the delegates for Ron Paul even though he came in a distant third to Romney and Santorum.

I believe at least a proportion of the total delegates should reflect what the people voted for. A candidate should also be able to dismiss a bound delegate who they know doesn’t support them. Romney and Santorum both frankly got screwed with the current process of having to go to the caucus and three levels of conventions to be a nat’l delegate. That’s BS.

I’m not sure that this is the right rule, but at the same time I’m sure not happy with the system we have either.

Kinda, but in the long run irrelevant. Still, this explains what I interpret as a tendency for this guy and his lackeys to forget that each state has a set of laws that regulate/enable/guide the function of the entities called political parties.

They are different than the sort of thing you get with ordinary non-stock or stock corporations.

Cutting off the grassroots really doesn't work that well in parties.

No surprise there, not for me anyways. But the RNC can’t control the TEA Party members of the House. Mitt is the anti obama, not Reagan. We will be putting more of our guys in the House and some in the Senate.
I don’t know if the House leadership will be up for grabs or not, But heres for hoping.

The parties within the states are mostly just as bad but much easier to correct.

The Michigan Republican Party (MRP) Credentials Committee voted 4-2 last night to give Mitt Romney both of the state's at-large delegates, State Policy Committee Chair Mike Cox told MIRS today.

Cox was one of two "no" votes on the committee which met via telephone, along with attorney Eric Doster The "yes" votes included GOP National Committeeman Saul Anuzis, a Romney supporter, and MRP Chair Bobby Schostak.

That would put the delegate split at 16 for Romney and 14 for Rick Santorum, after each candidate won 14 delegates apiece in those divided by Michigan's 14 congressional districts.

As MIRS first reported on Wednesday, the MRP was delaying a final decision on the delegate split until after consulting with attorneys.

Cox said that according to the MRP rules, Santorum and Romney should each get one of Michigan's two at-large delegates based on their take of the popular vote.

"I supported Mitt, but the vote was clearly wrong," Cox said of the Credentials Committee. "It's kind of like Third World voting. We published rules and then we voted to change the rules."

Step 1: Call your State GOP Headquarters and let them know you oppose the rules change.

Step 2: Contact any delegates you might know and urge them to act regarding the rules change.

Step 3: Contact your state’s Rules Committee members and tell them to SIGN THE MINORITY REPORTS before Tuesday’s session at 2:00PM. This is where you find the list of all the state Rules Committee Members.

Time is of the essence so do your part by following the above simple steps and share this everywhere.

Gelman commented: "Gateway Pundit is missing the point. The idea is to keep Ron Paul nut-jobs from taking over the convention like they have done at many State level Conventions. They are a loud, tiny minority. What they could not achieve through the ballot box and democracy, namely, to win a single state, they are now trying to disrupt at the convention level with swarms of crazy 'activists'. This should not, and will not be tolerated by the majority."

Granny added: "Yup, my Facebook has been full of posts for weeks from Ron Paul nuts promising to totally destroy the convention rather than see Romney put up as the candidate. Rumour has it RP isn’t going to turn over his delegates either. When I’ve pointed out that splitting the Republican party with a civil war is handing the election to Obama on a plate they really don’t seem to give a darn."

I have a very close friend who is an RNC delegate and a Tea Party activist. This is also his read on the proposed rule change - to keep the Ron Paul zealots from causing chaos on the Convention floor, as some of them are threatening.
