New Orleans officials announced Monday that they've decided not to call for mandatory evacuations in the city ahead of Tropical Storm Isaac's landfall, but evacuations have been ordered for many residents in surrounding parishes, particularly those outside protective levees.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu had said that a mandatory evacuation would not be ordered unless the storm was expected to become a Category 3 hurricane. On Monday afternoon, with forecasts still predicting a Category 1 storm, or possibly a Category 2, he announced that no mandatory evacuation would be ordered.

Even the so-called “blame Bush” stuff has become SO OLD.

What ever happened to Joe Bastardi’s warnings of Isaac at cat 4 or 5?

Maybe not such a good idea. I remember when Floyd came through here, the winds were not bad at all.It was the rain, that continued non stop for about 20 hours that did so much damage and killed people.Tropical storms dump a lot of rain when the come on shore. If this moves as slow as it is now, it could be bad.Just my thoughts.

As I understand it,....but all the hype is misplaced.

I see it as the same.

And I might detect a slight westward hook on the graphic - it could still hit much further west than New Orleans.

The different computer models are coming together but still show a spread.

I don't want to mix politics and tragedy, but you know that Obama will. If God forbid anything happens in New Orleans or elsewhere from this storm system Romney should go there - even if in the middle of the convention. It would be the right thing to do.

What? ruin a party for the obama base:

What began as a simple going-away party on Barracks Street in 1972 has evolved into one of New Orleans' premier yearly events: Southern Decadence. Held annually in the French Quarter over Labor Day weekend, this celebration of GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender) culture has begun attracting as many as 125,000-135,000 participants from all over the world in recent years.

Oh that's a given.Everything he does is about himself.

On a side note,it is raining heavy here in Wilmington from the outflow part of this storm.

NOLA’s gonna get it... not Tampa...
Looks like that toilet’s going to get flushed again.

To be honest, I hope that Holder’s People really get whacked this time ... can’t wait to see the outcry against Obama, who is on the golf course.

He’s also giving heavyweight interviews to “Glamour” magazine. I’m sure they will ask him hard-hitting, tough questions like, “So, ummm... what’s your favorite color...???”

He’s more likely to say that his magical powers have kept it at tropical storm status.

That’s more in keeping with his God-like ego.

Southern Decadence parade of perverts — stormed out in 2005 by Katrina, 2008 by Gustav, 2012 by Isaac? What’s it gonna take?

I agree. No comparison.

Issac has been a weird storm. Forecasters have been predicting hurricane strength since it was past Cuba. Still no Hurricane & the pressure is still falling. The NE quadrant is fairly dry.

The final analysis of this storm will be interesting.

pResident Obama to make a statement about Isaac at 10am.

I'm surprised he didn't schedule it for around 9 PM to interrupt the convention.
