BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - President Obama signed an emergency disaster declaration which will allow Louisiana to use federal aid to help with local response efforts to Tropical Storm Isaac.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) says the authorization will coordinate relief efforts and provide federal funds for local emergency and relief efforts. FEMA says the measure authorizes the use of "equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency."

Gerard M. Stolar will be the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal emergency response operations in the affected area.

The aid will be available immediately beginning Monday.

Following the President's announcement, Governor Bobby Jindal sent a letter to the federal government requesting a full disaster declaration for the state. Jindal says the limited declaration does not provide for reimbursement of expenses that the state is taking to prepare for the storm.

Below is the Governor's letter to the federal government:

It IS, at least, a timely relief measure.

FEMA needs to disappear so people can relearn how to take care of themselves.

” President Obama does not like fully black people. “

Obama hates people period. Why do you think he takes such pleasure in hurting them?

The response for katrina was more than timely enough, except that the democrat governor refused it and delayed it and did little to mobilize state resources.

Brown DID do his job very well. Bush sat back and let the democrat party create the mythology of katrina; the whole lie of the tropical storm that overwhelmed democrat neglected levees resulting in flooding. That neglect of the truth IS the fault of Bush.

Enough of this BS lie.

You would think that the governor who is supposed to be conservative would not demand even more government help. What is up with him?

Or rather help each other out, rather than FEMA.

Or rather help each other out, rather than FEMA.

That's what we need to get back to. Doing for ourselves and helping each other strengthens us. FEMA immunizes us against self reliance.

My comment was clear, not a reference to ther politics of before.

There's a LOT to dislike about Bush, I agree.

There's a lot to dislike about the whole Republican party and politicians for their lack of rebutal or retribution to harm caused by the democrats.

I'll do my best while I'm here, but at my age ... with maybe 10 or 20 years left.

Considering how slow wheels turn, I'll be dead before America turns around.

I'm no huge fan of FEMA. More because of how it operates not because of its mere existence.

That said, how do you propose the people "take care of" washed out bridges & roads, demolished buildings, people trapped under earthquake rubble, ensuring food & water is being delivered, etc when local & state governments cannot?

The same way they did before FEMA existed.

The same way they did before FEMA existed.

You mean in an even more uncontrolled, inefficient & expensive way than even FEMA manages to accomplish?

Agreed !

The Dem Governor dragged her feet to make it look like it was Bush's (FedGov) fault, now zer0 is setting up Jindal to make it look like the Rep Governor is to blame for the calamity.

Didn't you get the memo, it's always the Republicans fault !

Mississippi definitely was hit by a true hurricane while NO got the backwash.

My wife’s sister lived in Pass Christian and the place was nearly wiped clean. The devastation and the response in MS was mostly ignored.
