Federal court rejects Texas voter ID law Updated 11:14 a.m., Thursday, August 30, 2012

WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal court has ruled against a Texas law that would require voters to present photo IDs to election officials before being allowed to cast ballots in November.

A three-judge panel in Washington ruled Thursday that the law imposes "strict, unforgiving burdens on the poor" and noted that racial minorities in Texas are more likely to live in poverty.

The decision involves an increasingly contentious political issue: a push, largely by Republican-controlled legislatures and governor's offices, to impose strict identification requirements on voters.

I guess the ACLU flew dozens of poor people to D.C. to testify they would be unable to meet the burden of obtaining an ID.

And now that Roberts votes regularly with the liberals, he can’t be counted when this gets to the Supreme Court. Looks like perfectly reasonably voter ID laws are simply going to be against the law everywhere soon.

Votes are state control, aren’t they? Doesn’t that give the Federal Govt. NO legal right to mess with voting in states?

The Supreme Court already ruled that voter ID is OK in Indiana. What is the justification for this panel to rule otherwise?

I’d say they just need to tell the feds to stuff it and implement it anyway.

But its perfectly okay to require picture ID to buy Drano in Chicago. Somehow that is not a burden on minorities.

Yes, and Gov. Perry should say “FU” to the Federal 0bamabots and remind them of that, as well as the SCOTUS set precedence by upholding VOTER ID. Oddly, the 0bamabot courts don’t care about precedence when it’s contrary to their agenda.

Considering this decision violates several laws, goes against current standing SCOTUS decisions, and has zero logic behind it?

Impeach these judges. With prejudice.

And the houston comical staff dances for joy in the streets.

“strict, unforgiving burdens on the poor”

What a crock of crap.

Legal Texas voters, bonafide citizens of the United States, have been repeatedly disenfranchised by the Federal Courts.

Voting is a states rights issue. Only the 15th, 19th and 24th Amendments specify voting requisites. Verification or no verification of identity is not mentioned in any of these amendments.

More legislation and grasping from the bench.... the “New Normal”.

The oligarchs in black robes strike again. And judicial supremacists like Mitt Romney hold them to be the ultimate authority.

Dunno what to tell you. This court rejected it for Texas. The real problem now is that Roberts has gone liberal. Much like Souter abruptly changed ideology, Roberts now votes with the leftwing of the court and will probably uphold this decision that throws out voter ID.

If the Black Panthers can stand in their costumes - I mean uniforms- in front of a polling place and face no legal consequences, then maybe some good ol’ boys from Texas can stand in front of the Texas polling booths.
