It was one of the best performances I've seen this year.

Though he may have been wearing that Bob Newheart/Jimmy Stewart impersonation, and he did it well enough that I kept thinking there was something familiar about it until I finally figured it out, it was clear enough he meant what he was saying.

I can forgive the Bronco Billy days. Every man has to find and break his limitations. Clint Eastwood is a master and that performance last night was just more of why. Some age well; Clint's obviously a bit better at it than most.

The cleverest part was that he delivered the most devastating lines in that Newhart/Stewart persona. Laying it out straight would have been considered offensive, but he couched the toughest lines in the most inoffensive way.

The lines about consulting the Russians over Afghanistan and letting a failure go were devastating. Romney would have caught hell for using that language, but Eastwood pulled it off in that sorrowful and regretful tone. It was a good setup for Romney who gave permission for people to admit that it didn't work and it's time to replace Obama.

HEY, I liked Bronco Billy! I could have done with a lot less Sandra Locke though (in all of his movies).

Clint’s act reminded me of the old Shelley Berman routines. Only Shelley held a phone to his ear while conversing.
