Romney's narrative for next 9 weeks aimed at women
Houston Chronicle ^ | August 31, 2012 | Kilday Hart

Like tightly structured novels, political conventions introduce no random characters or irrelevant passages.

So when former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez were chosen for prime slots on the night of vice-presidential nominee Paul Ryan's national debut, the Romney campaign was intentionally advancing a narrative it will emphasize over the next nine weeks:

Women like Mitt Romney. And the endorsement of impressive leaders like Rice and Martinez - not to mention his appealing wife, Ann - suggests that female voters should believe the Romney-Ryan ticket will best serve their interests.

It may be a pivotal theme of the election.

The Democratic charge that Republicans are waging a "war on women" could be contributing to a significant gender gap afflicting the Republican ticket.

According to the most recent Gallup poll, Obama is leading Romney by a margin of 50 to 42 percent with women voters. Meanwhile, Romney leads Obama with men by a margin of 51 to 41 percent.

The good news for Democrats? Women turn out in higher numbers at election time than men. In 2008, women comprised 54 percent of the electorate,...

"Romney will have a very difficult time winning unless he can turn those numbers around," [Mark P.]Jones says.

.... Romney unabashedly wooed women: "When my mom ran for the Senate, my dad was there for her every step of the way. I can still hear her saying in her beautiful voice, 'Why should women have any less say than men, about the great decisions facing our nation?' "

He wished, he said, she could have heard the convention's speeches by Rice, Martinez and other female luminaries.

And he reminded the audience that he "chose a woman lieutenant governor, a woman chief of staff," and filled many other high-level positions with women."....

A long and pointed article. I think the Left is very worried.

They should be. What kind of woman would dress up as a vagina to protest the RNC Convention?

“What kind of woman would dress up as a vagina to protest the RNC Convention?”

And all the time I thought that was Debbie Wasserman with a wardrobe malfunction.

The bad news for rats: They have lost every congressional or gubernatorial election, except one, since Buckwheat was selected via voter fraud in 2008.

The left IS in meltdown.

Here, you were willing to risk having this underlying theme attacked and called pandering. There are comments I’ve read before here that women should not be able to vote and calling them demeaning names. Then they’ll say things like, “ducking for cover”, or “flame away”.

My view: Romney needs to get the truth out. The truth is he’s for success for all Americans and that surely includes women. His record is one of respect for women and giving them great opportunities. Note the women he touts are ladies, not just women, and they demonstrate class as well as accomplishment.

Therefore he’s NOT pandering to the wild-eyed radicals or the haters or the chip-on-the-shoulder types. That would be useless and wrong and he knows better.

To show normal women that he has a record just the opposite from what the lying Left claims with their “GOP war on women”, is a good thing.

The truth will set everyone free.

Women have the highest unemployment numbers — thanks to Obama’s policies — and a lot of their teenage and adult children are unemployed.

Someone here, please give an answer? How has Romney
changed? You only have his word he is pro-life now?

Mitt is still proclaiming yes to killing a baby girl
and baby boy in the womb conceived by rape or incest.

Rush sees...not Romney...she/he is still a baby~!

And how blinded, men, a third reason, professing Catholic Ryan and conning Romney proclaim they baby goes, kill it, if the mother’s life is threatened. I do not know of any mother who would agree to such an evil.

a significant gender gap

Why is "gender gap" code for "Women prefer the Democrat?"

In 2000, W had the "gender gap," not Al Gore while Gore won women by the same proportion men went for Bush.

Obama's well down with men but doesn't have a "gender gap," why?

It's Romney or it's Obama. One of those men will take the oath of office in January.

You don't believe Romney so he clearly can do nothing as a candidate to make you believe him.

My question to you is this: why are you for Obama?

True about his mother.

I think this election is so pivotal, every vote that is gained by correcting lies with truth is critical especially in swing states.

Therefore he needs every possible vote from people who are FAMILY oriented. Who rally around the ideal of strong marriages, loved and well-raised children being the bedrock of America. This truth includes strong and accomplished women, whether they choose to be mainly wives, mothers and grandmothers, or work and career, or all of the above.

The other types are lost to him anyway. They would be Obama voters.

His concern seems to be those who aren’t inclined to vote for Obama again, but who are hearing lies that make them hesitant to vote for him instead. In other words, not to vote at all.

Understandable concern.

Making abortion totally illegal in all cases is a view shared by at best 20% of the population, probably less. You’re seriously going to complain about Mitt’s position now vs. the party of abortion at any time in the womb/abortion out of the womb/abortion on demand/abortion on the floor of the DNC convention if they could get away with it?

Romney is pro-abortion. He has been pro-abortion all his life, pro-life (and then still pays for abortions in RomneyCare afterwards) and claims a pro-life record for running for Potus. And then, a few days ago, he declared he was in favor for legalized abortions for the “health and life of the mother,” including rape and incest. “Health,” according to the courts, refers to such disparate things as mental to emotional problems.

That’s why Obama and the Democrats essentially give the same answer. Obama himself claimed his vote against the partial birth abortion ban was due to no exemptions being added “for the health of the mother,” which, again, is defined by SCOTUS as having a vague and easy threshold to cross.

So, yes, I believe Romney is pro-abortion. He’s made it very clear. His “strong” mother, as someone else said, was also pro-abortion and he claimed that SHE instilled in him a strong pro-abortion stance. He has defended his church leaders on abortion, saying leaders in his own church are “pro-choice” and that it does not disagree with Mormon teaching (except if you’re a Mormon).

That said, if Mittens really is going to push the woman narrative, he’s probably going to keep declaring how he is “pro-life” but is in favor of keeping abortion the law of the land. Just like the Democrats.

“I have met thousands and thousands of pro-choice men and women. I have never met anyone who is pro-abortion.”

~ Hillary Clinton

Welcome to Europe! It’s Hillary vs Obama!

LOL

Talk about answering an assertion I never made.

The truth about a particular fact, that of his giving respect and opportunity to women, which is opposite to the left’s lies that he hates women and is warring against them, is all I spoke of.

Everyone can read, I assume, or they wouldn’t be here.

Hi,

You used the correct term.

Romney has no record of being for life. He is a con in hopes he can be elected. Time and time again Mitt has gone against God. He still is, promoting sodomy and all the exceptions to abortion.

Mitt rejects who Our Lord is, God, Second person of the Blessed Trinity. How is he going to guide our country without the grace of God to help him?

It would be wonderful if the “election miracle” is
Romney’s conversion. Right now, I cannot vote for either pro-abortion Presidential candidate. Cooperation is a mortal sin. They have both piled up so much evil in their decisions in elected office, there is no lessor of two evils this time.

The only way for the political parties to entice most women voters is to promise to hike government spending and taxes much more. But I’ll look on the bright side. The bipartisan policy on feminism will more quickly get us to the bond collapse, repudiation of debt and currency adjustment for much smaller government ahead. No valuable currency or revenues from big, unregulated manufacturing by freeing evil “males,” no money for a big, socialist beast.

So what’s the “progressive” political/regulator class going to do next? Violate more freedoms? Perpetrate more threats? More regulations, perhaps?
