The last time there was a "life of the mother" situation in the United States was probably the 1800s somewhere outside a city or town with a physician who left his scalpel at the office.

A cousin of ours (One of my grandfather's first cousins) died in childbirth with twins ~ she rejected the ministrations of a physician because, lo and behold, she was a member of the Apostolic Church of the First Born. She left other children behind as well as a husband and four ex-husbands.

The pro-lifers are wiling to put up with 4 more more years of abortion and euthanasia under Obama to gamble on 2016. That might be an ok argument for that one issue, but in the big picture it means sacrificing the economy as well.
