'2016: Obama's America' a box office hit
San Francisco Chronicle / SFGate.com ^ | Updated 11:24 a.m., Thursday, August 30, 2012 | John Wildermuth

When the documentary "2016: Obama's America" was released at fewer than 200 theaters earlier this month, Democrats, liberals and other Obama supporters speedily dismissed it as a right-wing polemic, destined to quickly disappear into the nether land of late-night cable and GOP fundraisers.

But the movie, pushed nonstop by conservative talk show hosts Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and others, took off. When it expanded nationwide to 1,091 screens last weekend, it earned $6.5 million, the seventh-highest weekend gross in the nation.

Finding a documentary among the top 10 box office moneymakers in any week "is very, very rare," said Paul Dergarabedian, box office analyst for Hollywood.com. "And it seems to be a grassroots effort. It's not like I'm driving by any huge billboards here in Los Angeles."

Don’t panic...it ‘disappears’ from the rankings until the updated figures are released...smaller studios like Rocky Mountain take longer to release their figures than larger studios. As a result; they ‘disappear’ for a bit. It will be listed again when estimated/actual figures roll in...

I am going again tomorrow. I went last Saturday but after talking to some FREEPERS this week, I lost some of the things I was supposed to get. I sometimes have to reread a paragraph or two again because I missed stuff. Not only will this add to the overall box office take but I believe I missed some very important information in the film.

FWIW...

My mother has a friend who was a big Obama fan. A senior with some money in the bank who was sure the sun rose and set on his highness, if not him being personally responsible for the occurrence himself.

She goes and visits once a year or so. The last trip, all the adoration was gone. She will not vote for Romney, but she despises what Obama’s policies did to her bank account/retirement. She’s staying home.

So don’t let anyone tell you seniors are a lock for Obama.

Normally on Friday, Saturday and Sunday they don't do individual days until Monday and they update everything. It probably is too overwhelming trying to get the right numbers since those are the three main movie days.

Just came from seeing it. Theatre pretty full for a 2:00 showing, mostly over 50. Movie was very good, wished it had hit harder or drew attention to more of his policies that have diminished America, bowing to other leaders, etc, some of his own quotes, although I got sick of looking at him.

“W” the George Bush movie made 25 million. I would like to beat that at least.

I saw it yesterday and left depressed. It was depressing thinking this country might have to endure another 4-years of this cretin. I do recommend the movie though; I think everyone should see it.

At the end of the film, the audience I was in (myself included)broke out into spontaneous applause.

That is interesting. I saw it yesterday and at the end there was complete silence. I believe it was because everyone there was as depressed at the thought that this jackass might get reelected as I was. There was absolute silence as everyone exited.

Have you heard of the new Anti-Obama documentary coming out next week: “The Hope and the Change”. Hannity had a one hour special on this with the writers and producers. IT IS DYNAMITE? They are negotiating for TV time for a showing as well as in the theaters.

He was more than fair to Pres. Obama.

Like stating emphatically that Obama was born in Hawaii. How does he know?

Exactly...and with the holiday weekend; don’t be surprised if FINAL figures don’t turn up until late next Tuesday. The movie is out there in over 1700 theaters (just check the ‘2016’ website), and it is doing just fine.

Bring your brother with you to the film, or encourage him to go! The beauty of this film is it doesn't BASH Obama, it just shows, through storytelling, how his upbringing influenced his outlook on the world. It convinces anyone with an open mind, that Obama's desire for America is NOT the same as freedom loving Americans who believe in American exceptionalism.

It is a very powerful film.

Good. I wish everyone who voted for Obama would lose everything they have. Obama ruined her bank account but she won’t vote for Romney. She is probably one of those old: “I was born a Democrat and I’ll die a Democrat” people. Being old is one thing but why do people have to be so effin’ stupid.

It is expanding from just over 1000 theatres to almost 1900 by this weekend.

"Also, the red-hot documentary 2016: Obama's America expands to 1,900 more screens. Let's see what else is hitting screens this weekend..."

Just go to www.2012themovie.com and click on Theaters. Up comes a listing, just enter your state to see if it is playing in a local theater. More theaters are added every Friday. We went to a matinee on Tuesday, mostly senior citizens. Everyone clapped at the end, one woman stood up and yelled out “Now all you folks go out there and tell people about this movie”. It was a real happening! And a great movie. Absolutely fascinating. And scary.

Prior to the film, I viewed Obama as a socialist and probably not constitutionally qualified for the position. Now, I realize it’s probably more deep-rooted and serious than that.

Dennis Prager had the Producer and the Director of 2016 on his progam on Wednesday, I think. They said the amazing thing is that this film is doing very well in NYC and Los Angeles! That they were very surprised.

If people either vote for Romney or stay home because they want to just get rid of Obama, that works for me.

More and more this election becomes “just get rid of Obama”

Combine this movie, the numberous books and the billboards slapping him down and we're looking at an upset country.

The movie has been showing a week in my little podunkville which has suprised me. We saw it midweek and at the early afternoon showing but the audience was about what you'd expect from an evening showing for a moderately popular movie. IMO, it was just ok and I'm afraid much of it will go over many Joe Average voters' heads. But, as long as they understand this usurper doesn't have the good of the country at heart then that's all that matters.

I agree. I, for one, will not sit there politely at social functions and bite my tongue for fear of being called a racist - I've already been called a neo-con and a right-wing extremist. In fact, last night I pursued the topic of The One's supposed intelligence, or lack thereof. My friend, a very prominent attorney said that Obama was brilliant. I asked him how we know, considering all of his records are sealed. He responded that he "must be" if he was the President of the Harvard Law Review.

I asked him if he knew that the HLR implemented "Affirmative Action" policies in selecting editors for the HLR beginning in 1982. (Google Erwin N. Griswold "The Harvard Law Review: Glimpses of its History from an Aficionado, published in 1987) Wikipedia says that the process for selecting editors is as follows: 14 are selected based on a combination of their first year scores and a writing competition. Another 20 are selected on the basis of the writing competition and the remaining editors are selected on a DISCRETIONARY BASIS. Of the 80 editors in Obama's year, 46 were selected on that discretionary basis. Obama was elected President - not selected based on merit, published works, etc. - from a group of 19 of those 80. His first popularity contest win.

I asked my friend which group he thought Obama was in, the 14, the next 20 or the group of 46? His response, "fascinating". Who knows, perhaps he will look into it a little more. It is up to us to do the work that the Liberal Media won't.
