SAN ANTONIO – Hunters hoping to enjoy the first day of dove season instead ended up using their guns on suspected car thieves.
The hunters were eating inside the T.G.I. Friday’s restaurant off of Loop 410 and Highway 151 on the west side.
Police say they looked out the window and saw thieves breaking into their pickup truck. The smash-and-grab left glass shattered across the parking lot.
Officers say the hunters ran out of the restaurant and told the thieves to stop but by then, the suspects had stolen about five handguns and shotguns and jumped into an SUV.
Police say the hunters are conceal-carry permit holders and quickly took action: they pulled out the guns they were carrying and shot at the getaway car.
"They're reporting they fired at least four to five shots into the SUV vehicle,” Sgt. Steve Priori says. “It's unknown if anybody was hit."

These are stalwart Christian men, upright and righteous. Ordinarily, I would expected them to easily mete out God's justice on these heathens. However, it seems the shots missed. I must conclude that these thieves were spared by the direct intercession of Almighty God, who must have some plan for at least one of them. We are not necessarily meant to understand the wonders of God's works. Our work is to bring them God's word and forgive them if we are unable to riddle them.Gotta love them Texans...

Hey I’d be tempted to do the same thing, but it could turn nasty for those guys if it turned out a baby or child was hit or killed or an innocent bystander in another car.
While the Empire State Building cops got away with shooting up 9 citizen bystanders in their wild frenzy of shooting in a situation that should never have occurred as they were entrusted to protect and serve the public. The system is not as amenable to us lowly citizens for taking what some might turn into reckless action that gets others shot.
If you pull the trigger you need to have a target acquisition and site picture and not shoot blindly at a vehicle. Hopefully it will turn out OK for the hunters and that the sleaze that broke into their truck are caught or were shot. Just saying public opinion can turn on a dime on something like this had something bad happened.
I don’t know. Sinking them accidentally in a boat while crossing the rain swollen stream is a lot less hassle.
Yeah, in Colorado you or someone must be in imminent danger of loss of life or dangerous injury. You can’t shoot at someone who is running away from you just because they have your stuff.
Doesn’t everyone have a dozen or so guns in the truck ?

It is debatable whether you can shoot someone in Colorado, “who just has your stuff” if the stuff they have is your firearms, and although it’s hard to make out in the rear window of the escape vehicle, but it sure looks like one of them is turned around and aiming one of them back at you.
Dang that would have been a great catch..... Ron has to have a nickel plated 1911A1 El Presidente Colt under the counter somewhere in .38 super.
I have a couple of Sig 220’s in .45. One worn out courier issue i carried as a BCSD Reserve Deputy and one NIB safe queen.
If the "stuff" is firearms, then you know for certain that they are armed. If I ever come home and find someone has broken in, I will presume they are also armed.
If such a vehicle is approaching, then they are fair game.
