For much of Iraq's youth, sporting blingy makeup, slicked-up hair and skintight jeans is just part of living the teenage dream. But for their elders, it's a nightmare.
A new culture rift is emerging in Iraq, as young women replace shapeless cover-ups with ankle-baring skirts and tight blouses, while men strut around in revealing slacks and spiky haircuts. The relatively skimpy styles have prompted Islamic clerics in at least two Iraqi cities to mobilize the "fashion police" in the name of protecting religious values
... This is a conflict playing out across the Arab world, where conservative Islamic societies grapple with the effects of Western influence, especially the most obvious — the way their young choose to dress.
...But over the last several years, following the 2003 U.S.-led invasion and the fall of dictator Saddam Hussein, Western styles have crept into Iraq's fashion palate. Form-fitting clothing, stylish shoes and men's edgy hairstyles are commonly seen on the street. Some younger women have even begun to forgo the hijab, or headscarf.
.."Legs can be seen, there are low-cut shirts," Jawad lamented. "And all, very, very tight. I think these Iraqis who are wearing these things have come back from Syria, Dubai and Egypt. They probably spent too much time in nightclubs. The families in Kazimiyah are conservative. These young people — nobody can control them. They should be given freedoms, but they should know their limits."

I do not care a wit for what these people do—how they dress or kill each other. That’s their business. The Nation building thing only works in nations that are modern in their thinking—like Germany and Japan. Give it a rest and let the troops come home. Let the Iraqi people sort out their own rulers. Maybe they need a bloody despot like Saddam? Like Russia needs a strong man like Putin? Its their choice—not ours.
Is there a human right to dress — or undress — any way we please in public? I see the Iraqi religious authorities as doing only what or ancestors would have done before World War II. If George Washington were to come back to life in modern America, he would be appalled at how we dress— and not just the women.

I think you need to re assess your view of legal and ethical and moral. You seem to feel it is okay to tell others how to behave, dress, and think. And don’t quite understand the God given freedom and Natural Law that ALL men and women are granted by their creator. And George Washington would be appalled at the way people force others to do things against NATURAL LAW. You should watch Bill Whittle’s video above and see what real conservative thinkers are saying, before you make such statements.

So you think you have a libertarian right to walk naked in public, to marry your mother, to kill unborn children,etc? Without at least some moral rules,a society collapses. In the USA, we don’t have to dress women in burqas; but we shouldn’t sneer at moslems for wanting a stricter dress code than ours.

I used the “naked” argument to show that we have to draw the line somewhere. My observation that the Moslems draw the line about where Americans in Abraham Lincoln’s day would draw it does not make me a troll.

The lack of wigs on men would be scandalous for him, along with modern medicine, religious freedom, and people other than male landowners voting.
To use even contemplate applying the social standards of yesteryear to the current time is inane at best. While I may not agree with some of the things being done, overall be are a better society.
You used the “Naked” argument to imply I had no standards, and pushed a rational explanation to Hyperbole as an argument. Your rhetoric is outside the norm, not mine.
