Matthias Rust had better luck penetrating Soviet air defenses than Hermann Goering did.
A Russian living to 101 is a tad unusual.
The average male life expectancy at birth is 60 years, which is the same as Papua, New Guinea.
Anybody subsequently posting here can say what they want about Soviets, but despite his politics, he was faithful to his wife. There aren’t many that make 50 years together, not including divorce. They were extremely lucky to have 70 years together.

Being a member of the upper class has it’s privilege.
Just eating the right brand of yogurt!

It is hard to keep going with clogged arteries and rotted livers. Many Russians are impressive physical specimens in their prime, but the lifestyle and diet are disasters. More beets and cabbage and fewer smokes and drinks would serve them well. Poor bastards.
Speaking of which, there are now several brands of a new kind of yoghurt drink in the grocery stores now that is popular in the Steppes, called “Kefir”, and it is not just pretty tasty, as flavored yoghurt goes, but it has about 10 different “probiotic” bacterial strains, which is a lot better than the usual one or two strains in lactobacillus milk or pills.
That is, if you are taking potent antibiotics, they can seriously foul up your intestinal flora, so drinking a few quarts of this can stave off antibiotic resistant bacteria or at least a vicious case of the squitters.
And having a healthy flora the rest of the time is both really good for digestion and keeps bad bacteria down.
And Kefir tastes like a smoothie. I don’t mind suffering yoghurt if it tastes good and keeps me from getting sick.
In fact Rust was tracked all the time and intercepted several times. They’ve seen a kid in a plane and did nothing, possibly under impression from still recent KAL007 PR disaster.
Newspaper rolled Russian tobacco is just plain nasty. Like smoking road asphalt.
