NC Gov. Perdue warns of ‘coat hangers in the bath tub’ if pro-life movement gets its way [VIDEO]

On Monday’s edition of MSNBC’s “Hardball,” broadcast live from Charlotte, N.C., North Carolina Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue went out of her to blast Republicans and conservatives for their positions on social issues.

“May I make a point?” Perdue said at the site of the 2012 Democratic National Convention. “I’ve never seen a bunch like this here so against regulation, Chris. They want less, less, less. And then it comes to a woman in the bedroom and they want to control everything. I don’t get that.”

Noted women’s issues expert and “Hardball” host Chris Matthews went on to ask Perdue if she thought people understand what it means to support an abortion ban, that such a ban would drive the practice of abortion underground.

“They’re going to go somewhere to end the pregnancy if they can afford it,” Perdue said. “But for poor women you’ll be back to the days of coat hangers in the bathtub and you’ll see women die. No, choice is a huge issue. I”m old enough to think that war was fought.”

Matthews then asked if the North Carolina governor was “surprised” to see Romney suggest he wanted to rid the judiciary of “liberal judges” and ultimately “ram through an end” to Roe v. Wade.

“That’s the end game in every state in America,” she said. “That’s right out of Karl Rove’s playbook. We know that and we see what’s happened in Texas. We’ve seen what has happened all over the country. People have got to stand up. Women have to understand that it might be their daughter or their granddaughter who’s raped. And there’s no such thing as legitimate rape. Rape is a rape, and that young woman should have a choice about what to do with her body and her life.”

The ultrasound is probably the best weapon in the war on abortion. It’s pretty hard to deny the humanity of a baby in the womb, when you can see it on a monitor.

Abortions have always been done mostly in hospitals or doctors' offices, coded as "D&C"s; and after the advent of antibiotics, during and after WWII, abortions became relatively safe. The coat-hanger in the alley is an urban legend which has no basis in reality but was found useful as a demogogic tool by babykillers like Perdue.

Guttmacher Institute has statistics on mortality, or used to, that may be useful. Wilke had a piece on this too, years ago, in his book.

some of the terrible consequences that have happened to women having ‘legal’ abortions at planned parenthood should be told now for the same reason.

Which would still probably be safer than most abortion clinics! They’re often worse than the back-alley stories the liberals always try to scare us with.

That’s right. All republicans - including republican women - simply WANT poor desperate girls to grab coat hangers. Preferrably rusty metal ones too.

And why wouldn’t they? If they are told an abortion is illegal, the coat hanger is their ONLY choice right? What do you expect them to do? Actually consider having the baby?

We want all rape victims to get preggers too - just so we have the satisfaction of forcing them to give birth too.

That’s just how we roll! /s

What people don’t realize is that The Affordable Care Act, such as it is, may well bring on the coat-hook abortionist....

Doctor shortages may be very real for everyone.

No sacred cow’s here dearhearts, it’s all, “As the Secretary Shall Direct.” You’ve got to read the law to know what’s in it.

Pro-abortionist Secretary = abortions.

Pro-life secretary = No abortions, or limited abortions, or rare abortions.

You see, it will reach us all regardless of our leanings. That’s the evil of it.

“But for poor women you’ll be back to the days of coat hangers in the bathtub and you’ll see women die....”

News flash lady- I did newborn ICU for 14+ years in a major hospital on the edge of a ghetto. The women were pumping babies out as fast as they could and readily admitted it was to get more money from the government. It was like geese laying golden eggs. The number of “repeat offenders” I saw, and number of women who said, “I remember you,” I doubt I could count.

I heard Bernard Nathanson speak once. He had treated many women injured by illegal abortion, and that experience drove him to the pro-abortion movement. By the 1960s they were able to save nearly all the women so injured, because of antibiotics and transfusions. He said perhaps 200 women a year were dying in 1960, by the early 70s about 30.

Government statistics show 859 maternal deaths from all causes in 1968, including 133 abortion deaths (induced abortion, legal or illegal, miscarriage and unspecified.)
http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/vsus/mort68_2a.pdf

People will claim that the abortion deaths were hidden, disguised as deaths from other causes. If so, then there would have been a big drop in the number in the deaths of women of child-bearing age once abortion was safe and legal.
There was no such drop.

That is outrageously ignorant. So offensive and ignorant all at once. Insulting to say that anyone would desire it, and ignorant to state it would be even an outcome.

I was one who was pounding on Akin for his ignorant statement. I am now fully on board the Gingrich view, demanding Democrats who say things equally ignorant be held to account.

Not that it would happen, but it needs to be called out.

Perdue raised $15 million for the general election and ran ads against her Republican opponent, Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory, criticizing him for not being tough enough on illegal immigration.

On September 27, 2011, Perdue introduced the idea of suspending the Congressional elections. She told the Cary Rotary Club, “You have to have more ability from Congress, I think, to work together and to get over the partisan bickering and focus on fixing things. I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that. The one good thing about Raleigh is that for so many years we worked across party lines. It’s a little bit more contentious now but it’s not impossible to try to do what’s right in this state.

She also vetoed a bill that would have required voters to show photo ID before casting their ballots.

She vetoed a bill that would have allowed and provided regulatory control of fracking in her state. The veto was overridden soon thereafter.

Federal authorities looked into 41 confirmed private flights Perdue took dating back to 2005, which her campaign did not report until 2009. The state Board of Elections in August fined Perdue’s campaign $30,000 for the flights aboard campaign donors’ planes.

After the election Peter Reichard, a Greensboro businessman who served as the Perdue campaign’s finance director, was charged with obstruction of justice. Reichard has been a key player in the gubernatorial campaigns of Perdue and her predecessor, Mike Easley, both Democrats.

Noted women’s issues expert and “Hardball” host Chris Matthews.

Did I read that correctly?

Wrong on both counts.

I’m getting a tingle.

Take your meds Chris.

Perdue is insane. Certifiable. Spent too much time on the chicken farm. Ate too much corn. Now she is full of chicken-shit. Has become a noisy old hen. Time for the cooking pot, Bev.

She’s such a wacko that even Chick Fil-A won’t accept her.
